No. of people who will benefit: 250,000. 4250 X 3934 El Salvador Mangrove Restoration - Over the past year, EcoWB has worked closely with Asociación Mangle, a community organization based in southeastern El Salvador, to lay the groundwork for a new mangrove restoration initiative. Centered on the richly biodiverse mangrove forests of Jiquilisco Bay, the first phase of the project set out to understand why some areas where mangroves have been lost are more responsive to recovery than others, and how that knowledge can help guide smarter, more effective restoration efforts. This first phase involves spatial analysis of 30 years of satellite data from Jiquilisco Bay, the country's largest and most ecologically significant mangrove forest. EcoWB and FHMSR work side by side on the MSFP, dividing responsibilities and tasks according to their respective capabilities to ensure project success. EcoWB is working to address the waste and environmental damage that has come to characterize the once beautiful Nairobi Reservoir and its tributaries. Over the next few years, EcoWB and ETCO will work with the residents of Kibera and other partners to clean up waterways and reclaim the reservoir area for recreation and other beneficial uses by local residents.
