Many Northern Uganda families have been negatively impacted economically due to COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns and many private secondary schools have not reopened. Hope For Uganda (HFU) benefactors have kept SHS and AFSS afloat financially and the teachers and staff were ready to welcome the students back. In fact, enrollment at both schools have increased to historically high levels. Student scholarships exceeding $265,000 were sent to help the families of SHS and AFSS. The HFU board also funded grant requests for the following needs: renovate the SHS Science Laboratory; replace solar batteries and purchase additional furniture at AFSS; furnishings for the Dan & Bobbi Vaughan Priest & Guest House; HFU sent funds to help the Archdiocese of Gulu purchase 3 motorcycles/Mass kits/chasubles for the newly ordained priests. The HFU board raised the money needed to plant crops on 135 acres of the 262 acres of farmland purchased near AFSS in 2017. The following crops were grown and harvested in 2022: corn, edible beans, rice, sunflower (for cooking oil), cassava, and various garden vegetables. In 2022, HFU funded the installation of a gravel road on the Farm, and purchased a pickup for the Archbishop Flynn Rural Development Education Center; has invested in equipment to be used on the AFSS farm including a tractor, plow, and disc, and purchased two motorcycles for farm staff. HFU is now focused on building structures for crop processing and storage.
