VR allows the students to learn by interacting in a way that simulates real life, leading to long term knowledge and retention. For instance, content in History can be taught through immersive learning experiences, allowing students to learn "firsthand" about a historical event. 3D models help students understand the relevance of STEM disciplines. For example, in Geometry, students can look at 3D forms from multiple perspectives by rotating a shape to see it from different angles as well as from the inside. Our students who are identified with learning challenges have challenges ranging from developmentally delayed to the autism spectrum to wheelchair-bound students with extreme developmental challenges. VR can provide these students with alternative means of learning. A student can manipulate objects and experience real life situations that would normally be difficult. Our students from the underserved community do not have access to the technology their peers have for entertainment. Therefore, they are automatically at a disadvantage when applying for jobs or attending post-secondary educational institutions. By giving them access to these tools, they can be competitive in the workplace and in the classroom. This provides an "equal playing field" for all students to learn real-world technical skills using advanced virtual platform technologies.
