Because most Mixtecs living in Ventura County are young families with small children, MICOP offers Bebe Sano well-baby and Aprendiendo con Mama y Papa learning with Mon and Dad classes that teach the basics of infant care and early childhood learning. The courses are designed to accommodate low-literacy learners with a linguistically accessible and culturally appropriate curriculum. MICOPs Tequio Youth Group promotes indigenous pride and encourages academic achievement and continuing on to higher education. The organization provides one-time financial assistance support to families in crisis and has a rental support program. Each year the Organization coordinates collections and distributions of school materials in August. Cultural Presentations MICOP promotes indigenous culture through celebrations of indigenous festival days, including Dia de los Ninos childrens day, Dia de Muertos Day of the Dead, Christmas, and other cultural events. MICOP organized its 5th Indigenous Knowledge Conference in 2018 to share information about the Oaxaca Indigenous community in Ventura County, indigenous culture, and language access. THe Organization also regularly provides cultural competency training to other agencies and organizations, educating them about the Mixtec community and how to best provide services to them. Form 990, Part VI, Line Line 11b Organizations Process to Review Form 990 Management and the Fianance Committee perform a detailed review of the Fom 990. After ensuring any needed changes are made, a recommendation for approval is made to the full Board of Directors. All Diretors receive a copy of the Fom 990 prior to filing. Form 990, Part VI, Line Line 12c Enforcement of Conflict Policy Each new Board member signs the Conflict of Interst policy. It is in the Board manual and is covered in the Board training that each new Board member attends. All Board members work to ensure ongoing vigilance that the Conflict of Interest policy is enforced.
