Once a candidate has been interviewed and backround checks complete, they are presented to the full board of directors requiring a majority vote to approve. Committees are comprised of board members and specific members at large. Any action brought forward by a committee is presented to the full board and must have majority approval to implement changes. Any action that may require voting approval are presented to the entire board of directors for final decision and approval. The hiring and termination of the executive director is apporived by the full board of directors. Families Unlimited Network is a small non-profit organization operating a food bank, weekend meals for children, summer lunch for kids in the community, after school care and rent and utility assistance. We have one full time employee and 3 to 5 parttime employees to help with the collection, storage and distribution of food and assistance to people in our community experiencing food insecurity. We operate out of an old house where we collect food and deliver it to our clients. We rely on volunteers to be able to care for the people in our community. For the last three year the number of people and families needing our services has increase over 29% from the prior year and we see it continuing to increase with the high cost of food, gas and rents. We rely on a strong volunteer base to operate the food and assistance programs which greatly decreased due to covid impact on seniors who make up a majority of our volunteers. Many of our regular volunteers did not return as covid subsided as a result we have had to recruite and train new people which has been extremely time consuming. We have tried to hire additional staff but as a nonprofit we offer a lower pay scale compared to for profit business which makes it difficult to hire and retain the few part time employees we need. Low retention means continuing to hire and train new part time staff. As a consequence, the few employees have to change schedules and take on additional duties and responsibilities to keep the food coming in and making sure it is safely stored and available for our clients. We hired a new Food Bank Manager in 2021 which is a key position in our organizations. We rely on individual and businesses in our community to provide funding as well as the volunteers to keep the organization providing the needed resources for our community. The past two and a half years have caused Families Unlimited Network to change how we collect food and reach out to our clients. During this time we have always been able to remain open and avialable to our community, never closing down. We have been operating for over 30 years and a 501(c)3 since 2003. In 2021 we experienced another increase in the demand for food and assistance in our greater community resulting in a 33% increase. It has been unprecedented. We have been able to keep our doors open by staff flexibility to perform a variety of jobs and the generosity of our community.
