Actually, we don't just believe it - we live it and practice it everyday! Our programs bring together people from diverse backgrounds and identities to discover and celebrate their common ground through collaborative songwriting, multimedia and performance. Since 2005, we have worked and performed in nearly 400 communities across the globe and across ethnic, cultural, racial, religious, gender, sexual orientation, and socio economic axes.Our Amplify program features Atlanta-area volunteer musicians, singers, and rappers from diverse backgrounds, ages, and musical styles performing songs with a message and a mission at venues and events throughout the metro area. Amplify is part community band, part all-star band. The band's repertoire is culled from our extensive catalog of songs written around the world in our JAMMS sessions as well as select covers and band member originals. Because many of the youth songwriters in our JAMMS program are not musicians, the powerful messages of their songs may not be as widely heard as they need to be. The Music in Common band amplifies those messages in new and innovative ways to a wider audience through performance and recordings. The Black Legacy Project is a musical celebration of Black history to advance racial solidarity, equity, and belonging.The Black LP is a national project produced by Music in Common - a nonprofit that strengthens, empowers, and connects communities through the universal language - in partnership with community stakeholders at the local level. As it travels the country, the Black LP brings together Black and White artists and artists of ALL backgrounds to record present day interpretations of songs central to the Black American experience and compose originals relevant to the pressing calls for change of our time. Community roundtable discussions help inform how these songs are interpreted and written. The Black Legacy Project launched in September 2021 in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts and will travel to Atlanta, Los Angeles, the Mississippi Delta, Denver, the Arkansas Ozarks, and Boise in 2022 - 2023. JAMMS is a culturally immersive program in which participants engage in rich and meaningful conversations about their communities, learning about each other's cultural, religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds and discovering their common ground in the process. From these conversations participants select a theme to write a song as a group, record it, produce a music video, and present both in a public performance.JAMMS integrates social and emotional learning (SEL), diversity training, and a unique pedagogy based upon select educational and social psychology practices. Participants gain self-confidence, cultivate empathy and compassion, and strengthen their communication and collaborative skills to help them constructively navigate today's complex landscape of social / cultural conflict and bullying. To date, more than 50 JAMMS songs and videos have been written and produced throughout the U.S. and Middle East. The program is lead by professional musicians, multimedia creators, and educators trained as MIC facilitators. FODfest (Friends of Danny Festival) is Music In Common's flagship concert. FODfest honors the life of slain Wall St. Journal reporter, Daniel Pearl and features local musicians in a unique format that is part concert, part song swap, and part jam session.
