In 2021, the WSDC hosted two Seattle Mayoral races and one Tacoma Mayoral race, partnering with coalition members across the region and numerous media partners. This statewide Coalition was formed to enhance Washingtonians access to those who hold and seek our states highest elected offices. The Coalition is comprised of civic leaders, nonpartisan organizations, colleges and universities, and media partners committed to leading the nation in setting a higher standard for political debates. This program helps educate voters and others in our community and does not directly or indirectly support or oppose any one candidate. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the debates were held virtually. 59290 5107 Civic Cocktail - One of our flagship programs since 2013, continued to be held throughout the pandemic in a virtual capacity. This program offers a lively look at big events and important issues facing the Puget Sound region, connecting leaders with the public for engaging conversation. The programs conversational format features elected officials, community organization leaders, journalists, political pundits, news-makers, and local residents. Co-produced by Seattle CityClub and the Seattle Channel, Civic Cocktails are moderated by a journalist and held nearly every month. 2021 programs helped us to date produce over 70 Civic Cocktails, host nearly 300 speakers, sell about 15,000 tickets and provide free access to roughly 5,000 people, primarily to youth, BIPOC, immigrants, and refugees. 16374 48029 Civic Boot Camp - Civic Boot Camp offers participants in-depth perspectives from local leaders on critical regional issues, providing inspiration to take action in their communities and bridge toward solutions. Each event addresses the historical and current context of local and regional issues, and has covered topics including racial justice, housing and homelessness, climate change, economic equity, healthcare, immigration and civil rights, and the local and regional economy. Since 2013, weve hosted over 50 Civic Boot Camp events, sold about 3,000 tickets, and provided free access to just under 1,000 people.
