We provide immediate assistance when a wildfire strikes in Northern California. Our staff trains and mentors local communities in establishing a long term recovery group. Our organization serves in all phases of the disaster providing immediate assistance to long term recovery. We serve in three main areas: In the relief phase of the disaster, HCRN provides direct assistance to individuals affected through gift cards and supplies; we also train and mentor local community leaders as they begin the process of recovery. HCRN provides mentorship to long term recovery groups across the State of California. In the recovery phase, HCRN is one of only two volunteer disaster recovery organizations that are rebuilding full-time in California for disaster survivors. HCRN mobilizes volunteer teams for the labor force for rebuilding. Our construction managers oversee the rebuilding work and ensure that all work meets or exceeds state and local building codes. Since 2015, HCRN has served by coordinating volunteer teams who rebuild homes for vulnerable families. Our organization is part of Team Lake County, the long term recovery group providing assistance to wildfire survivors of all the wildfires affecting the county in the last five years. Disaster Case Management works with clients to determine their eligibility and seek out funding for their home rebuilds. HCRN rebuilds for households who were underinsured or uninsured at the time of the fire. Since 2015, we have rebuilt 51 homes in the area. Our partners, donors and volunteers make this possible. The homes rebuilt have an appraised value of $8.9 million. In 2020, the pandemic curtailed the number of volunteers who were able to serve on our projects. We continued to build using only staff and limited volunteers, but we were able to complete 6 homes despite the setbacks. Immediate assistance - HCRN provided help to wildfire evacuees in the form of gift cards and supplies. Our staff also coordinated meals for evacuees and first responders. HCRN was part of a home grocery distribution project that supplied up to 80 households each week with basic groceries for vulnerable households at greatest risk of contracting the COVID virus.
