As we turned the page on 2020, the "Year of COVID-19," the mission intensified and transformed as quickly as the virus. As patient care patterns quickly changed and the Milford Regional team realized that there was no "new normal," only new challenges. While establishing and operating a hospital-based COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic was a primary focus of attention and energy in 2021, serving more than 6,000 members of our community, Milford Regional continued to move other program and service initiatives forward. From Orthopedics to Women's Health, attention was given to building new services and facilities to better serve patients. COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic One of the most important services Milford Regional offered in 2021 was providing a COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic for employees and members of the community. More than 99% of our staff was 100% vaccinated and more than 6,000 members of our community also received their vaccines at Milford Regional before the clinic was closed on May 13, 2021. During that time not only did our staff work tirelessly to protect the community, but 44 community volunteers provided more than 2,500 hours of service at the clinic. Behind the scenes they also assembled more than 2,500 COVID-19 test kits. New Orthopedic Center of Excellence Fiscal Year 2021 provided the perfect opportunity to plan and build out a new facility for Milford Regional Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. Due to open at 98 Prospect Street in Milford in early 2022, this new 10,000 square-foot facility will be operated by Milford Regional Physician Group and offer diagnosis, treatment and X-ray services for a wide range of orthopedic concerns and sports injuries. An ambulance entrance will offer additional convenience for those with mobility issues. Women's Health & Pelvic Floor Therapy Milford Regional Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine is now offering a new treatment to women who suffer from dysfunctions of the pelvis and groin area that contribute to bowel, bladder, sexual health and other pain complaints. Up to one-third of all women experience a problem with their pelvic floor muscles at some point in their life. The Women's Health and Pelvic Floor Therapy program can treat common conditions, including pelvic floor weakness, pregnancy-related conditions such as sacroiliac joint pain, sciatica, pubic symphysis separation, incontinence, low back pain, pelvic pain and post-partum incontinence, endometriosis, sexual dysfunction and more. The Office of Community Benefits is actively engaged with the Community Health Network Area (CHNA) and other community collections/committees focusing on substance abuse, access to services, interpersonal violence prevention, cancer prevention and nutrition/physician activity/wellness to address emerging health needs. Schedule H, Part VI, Line 3 Patients are informed of the availability of financial assistance by way of payment statements printed with financial assistance information. At the time of discharge from the Emergency department, uninsured patients are encouraged to meet with an on-site Financial Counselor. If unable to meet with a Financial Counselor at the time of discharge, the patients are given a screening letter that gives contact information for our financial assistance department. The day following any emergency room visit, a form is generated on each uninsured patient and sent to the Financial Counselors.
