Approximately 150 attendees attended learning through dozes of education program sessions, keynote speakers, and discussion roundtables. Additionally, our board of directors moved all meetings to virtual meetings. These two changes significantly reduced our revenues and expenses for the year. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6 The organization's membership is made of college and universities in Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Alberta, Alaska, and Yukon Territories. Individual person can also be members, but the majority of the membership are institutions of higher learning. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7a The membership votes for the officers of NWAUCHO. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7b The membership votes to approve all changes to the governing documents of NWACUHO. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b The 990 was presented to the Board of Directors by email in October 2020, and is shared on the organizations website, https://nwaucho.org Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c Annually, with the election of the new Board of Directors, the entire board reviews the Conflict of Interest Policy. The board regularly reviews to see if conflicts exist, and if so, those parties do not make decisions. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 All of the documents are available online via the Association website - https://nwacuho.org. The board receives regular (more than once per quarter) budget updates. At the annual conference, the membership sees the budget, and at any time, if a member request to see financial documents, the documents are provided to them. Our organization board of directors is made up of volunteer members, all of who work in housing departments on college campuses. Our process for filing our tax forms has been to have the treasurer fill out the 990 form and submit to a CPA for review before mailing them since our volunteer treasurers may have limited knowledge of taxes and finances in general. We do it this way as it is the most economically feasible for our organization and since our sources of revenue and types of expenses each year rarely change. The treasurer will typically use the prior year's tax forms as a guide and update the amounts, and submitted it to our CPA for review. This past year, our former treasurer, whose term ended in February 2022, was unaware that the law had changed and required that our taxes be filed electronically. He followed our process and submitted the tax forms to the CPA. However, according to our former treasurer, our CPA did not respond to several emails and phone calls from him in the weeks leading up to our filing deadline and never reviewed the forms. Therefore, he mailed in the taxes since he felt confident that they were accurate given he had filed them the previous 2 years. Had he known that filings needed to be filed electronically, he would have submitted them that way. Please note that this error was not intentional or malicious, but simply the treasurer doing what he had done previously by mailing in the form. I am the new treasurer, and now that I'm aware of the new requirement, I will ensure that moving forward we will submit these forms electronically.
