The Foundation is a corporate member of SRHC.Depression/Mental HealthVeridian Behavioral Health is a multi-disciplinary center offering dedicated quality mental health care. Veridian is part of the behavioral health department of Salina Regional Health Center.As part of SRHC, we offer a full continuum of care for Central Kansas.Many of Veridian's services are geared toward individuals and families who are struggling with common life problems such as depression, anxiety, marital problems, parent-child conflicts or grief and loss. Our services are provided in a convenient and comfortable, private office setting.Veridian psychiatrists provide direct care in an office setting while actively serving in various settings, such as intensive outpatient care, inpatient care in Salina Regional Health Center and in nursing homes.Salina Regional Health Center has worked with SRH Foundation to provide funding to organizations working to remove the stigma of depression and mental health, and provide counseling, therapy and treatment for individuals suffering from these health issues.Obesity (Child and Adult)Continue support and funding of the School Marathon program up to $40,000 per year to the School Marathon Foundation to implement the school marathon program in Salina elementary schools. Salina Regional Health Center has worked with SRH Foundation to continue its funding and maintenance for the Center Street Park. The park is designed for children of all abilities and disabilities. The inclusive playground area is multi-generational and includes a quarter mile walking/jogging path around the playground. In addition, various pieces of adult outdoor exercise equipment are located in and around the playground area. The SRH Foundation gave a grant of $22,000 to Salina Education Foundation to sponsor a variety of programs and initiatives for the 2021-22 academic year including Power of One/Healthy Lifestyles, Sudden Opportunity Grants, Nurse Emergency Funds, Opportunity Now-Get Fit, Breakfast for Success, Heartland Weekend Meals, Early Childhood/Parent Involvement and Social Workers Fund.Domestic ViolenceSalina Regional recognizes DVACK as the experts in this area and supports DVACK in their efforts. DVACK provides free, voluntary and confidential services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, teen dating violence, elder abuse and human trafficking. The SRH Foundation gave a grant of $25,000 to Ashby House's 'Finish that House' campaign to complete a new shelter that will increase the organization's capacity to serve area homeless families and individual women. The SRH Foundation gave a grant of $20,000 to Salina Grace to open a low-barrier winter shelter for area homeless.Aging PopulationThe Meds to Bed program: One of the main goals with Meds program is enhanced education on medication at discharge. A significant factor in the aging population is having staff to care for the population as we age. Because of this Salina Regional Health Center takes a very active role in several area nursing schools. The SRH Foundation gave a grant to the Kansas University School of Nursing in the amount of $178,773 for their nursing program, and a grant of $10,000 to Salina AM Chapter of AMBUCS to purchase building materials to construct ramps at area homes for those with wheelchairs and disabilities.Heart Disease Related IndicatorsThe American College of Cardiology has awarded Salina Regional Health Center Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI Accreditation after a rigorous onsite evaluation. The accreditation validates the staff's ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack. Striving for this national accreditation demonstrates Salina Regional Health Center's commitment to always being ready to treat patients with heart attacks. It shows that we have the advanced skills to provide effective chest pain care. It is possible many of our heart attack patients might be treated without emergency surgery with a procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The SRH Foundation gave a grant of $25,000 to American Red Cross Blood Services to help purchase a new van used throughout the region to transfer blood donations for processing, testing and storage. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted blood drives throughout the region. The purchase of the van to travel around the region increased the number of drives which helped maintain our surgical procedures including heart procedures.CancerOur comprehensive cancer program holds the prestigious cancer program approval by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and the American College of Radiation Oncology. In addition, the Tammy Walker Cancer Center is affiliated with the renowned Midwest Cancer Alliance, increasing access to the latest cancer treatment discoveries through a wide variety of clinical research studies.SRHC maintains cancer services including Oncology and Radiation Oncology. Support services include Nutrition Counseling, Appearance Center, Spiritual support, and Cancer Registry.The Tammy Walker Cancer Center had several Cancer screening events throughout the year (Prostate, Skin, Breast and Colon). Some of these were more difficult due to the pandemic but mail in and drop off labs were provided for colon cancer screening making it much more effective and safe. The SRH Foundation gave a grant of $5,000 to Rolling Hills Zoo for Dream Night at the Zoo. Dream Night at the Zoo provides a free evening at Rolling Hills Zoo for children with cancer or other chronic illnesses. This annual event allows these children the ability to visit the zoo with their families in an environment where the children feel more comfortable to enjoy the animals and special activities at their own pace in a safe, yet fun setting.Death Rate Due to Drug PoisoningSRHC will support Central Kansas Foundation in their efforts to provide a peer mentor at COMCARE, Saline County Health Department and Salina Family Healthcare Center to enhance provision of care to those battling addiction. ImmunizationsTammy Walker Cancer Center focuses on HPV vaccinations. Saline County Health Dept. is focused heavily on immunizations. Immunization rates are much better as the reduction in rates was a national trend as well, with some high profile anti-immunization campaigns which seem to have lessened.StrokeContinue exceptional stroke care and maintain our designation as a Primary Stroke Center.A dedicated stroke response team is called to the Emergency Department whenever stroke is suspected. Members of the team include emergency room physicians, nurses, radiology staff, pharmacists and lab personnel who all have received specialized training to provide stroke care. The stroke team can be activated from the field by emergency responders to ensure that the team is ready to receive and treat the patient the moment they arrive at Salina Regional Health Center.Public education also is key to improving stroke outcomes. As an initiative to educate the public on stroke recognition and how to respond, the acronym FAST is often used: Facial drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulties and Time to call emergency services. The Kansas Hospital Association inpatient discharge database includes data for all reporting hospitals. From this we determine usage trends that help us plan needed services. Part VI, Line 3: At registration, the patient is informed of their rights for financial assistance if unable to produce valid insurance coverage. The patient is referred to a third-party vendor to determine eligibility for governmental programs and if it is determined they do not qualify, they are screened under our financial assistance guidelines. Between 2017 and 2019 the population of Saline County, KS declined from 55,334 to 54,224. When compared to the national population, this area is represented by an older population with a lower educational level and lower median income.The Challenge of the Aging PopulationAs members of the baby boom generation get older and reach retirement age, they present an increasing challenge and opportunity for health care. The growth in the number of elderly patients from the boomer generation coupled with a loss of boomer-age providers will pressure an already-stressed health care system. A big unknown is how well Medicare will digest the 75 million baby boomers amid the federal government's attempt to transform how care is provided and paid for in the program.Saline County has a higher percentage in the 65+ age-group of 18.3% compared to 16.3% for the rest of the state. This percentage is projected to continue to rise until the year 2035 before it starts to decline. Cancer, high cholesterol, COPD, arthritis, Alzheimer's and depression for Medicare aged residents all currently have higher rates than the rest of the state. These indicators coupled with an increase in residents in this age group will be an issue for years to come.The service area is less ethnically diverse compared to the U.S. overall. The majority of residents are Caucasian (79.6%) followed by Hispanic (11.8%) and Black (3.6%). Spanish patient education materials are available at SRHC and the hospital translates via Certified Languages International and Stratus.Recognizing the relatively lower educational level in the community, the hospital writes patient information at a 4th to 6th grade reading level.Median household income in the primary service area from 2015-2019 was $52,200 compared to a Kansas median of $59,597, and national median of $62,843. A lack of available resources to the indigent is a challenge in this environment, so in addition to providing charity care, the hospital has and continues to support the Salina Family Healthcare Center, which provides care to the indigent.
