<ExplanationTxt>FORM 990, SCHEDULE A, SECTION C, LINE 17A Early Engagement provides educational and social support to fathers of infants and toddlers, so they can better support mental development and family mental wellness during the vital first 3 years of life. In the past decade, we have been developing and testing educational programs, which are being rolled out to the general public in 2025.Our services are open to the public and provided across Los Angeles County at no cost or on a sliding scale. We prioritize outreach to under-served populations, including fathers experiencing economic hardship, housing insecurity, and co-parent mental health challenges. In 2024, we served over 100 fathers through more than 2,700 hours of free, in-person parentchild programming. The majority of our contributions (by number) are small donations from individuals. As we move into this retail phase of our operations, we expect a much larger percentage of our contributions (by total value) to come from small donations from our client base. At this investment stage in our development, all services are offered for free, or on a sliding scale/optional donation basis. We offer 4 types of programming, all focused on Public Participation/Direct Delivery of Services:1.DadTime - meet-ups for fathers and small children, to provide connection and social support for new fathers. Limited to two locations, we served over 1200 people/visit/sessions in 2024. (See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibJi3yPCC5k)2.StrongStart Practice, (https://www.earlyengagement.org/practice) in which parents and young children meet in person to focus on parenting skills. 3.StrongStart New Dads, a hospital-based program to offer a Family Mental Wellness Prophylaxis in the form of a Paternal Perinatal Parenting Orientation. These Before Baby for Dad Classes are being tested by a nationally-leading researcher in the UCLAHealth Medical system. 4.Programs and Presentations on the Science Father Parenting. Presentations to preschools, at national and state conferences, and to staff of social service providers (including school districts and Early Headstart) on father engagement, how fathers parent differently, and the implications thereof. Approximately 800 people viewed our presentations in the past year. The New Dads program (#3) is our focus for middle-term scalable impact: as the 2025 development and testing stages conclude, we expect continued grant support as well as small donations from clients who have completed the program. We intend to evolve Dad Time (#1) into a broad-based membership program by offering templates to allow fathers to start and host their own DadTime sessions throughout the country. These members are likely to fund that program with small donations. Early Engagement maintains an active public profile through a regularly updated website (www.EarlyEngagement.org) and social media (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube see https://www.youtube.com/@Early_Engagement). We offer free public-facing parent education materials and white papers, present at conferences and collaborate closely with civic and public-serving institutions that also serve young children, including UCLA Health, Santa MonicaMalibu USD, Harvest Home, and Santa Monica Early Childhood Development Taskforce. Our independent board includes experts in philanthropy, mental health, cognitive science, and providing services to vulnerable populations. While we have been developing our services for over a decade, we feel we are still a New Organization in terms of not yet having a strong charitable gift solicitation program: our focus has been on program development, but our increased (and increasing) scale means we must now add small donor fundraising to our competencies. We have invested considerable fundraising efforts in cultivating relationships with foundations, healthcare providers, nonprofits and other current and potential strategic partners. Early Engagement has an active and engaged board of directors that remain committed to the success of the organization. This is our first 990-EZ tax return, but we have always been current with all of our required government filings and adhere to high standards of compliance and oversight.Based on these circumstances, and consistent with Treasury Reg. 1.170A-9(f)(3)Early Engagement requests continued classification as a publicly supported charity under section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi). We are organized and operated in the public interest, not controlled by private individuals, and we advance a clearly defined charitable mission through ongoing public programs, outreach, and education.</ExplanationTxt>
