We achieve our mission with a three-pronged approach. First, we provide whole-health management via structured and trauma-informed housing. Additionally, our organization holds weekly street-based outreach to support those in active use and experiencing housing insecurities. Finally, we empower and inform the public through education on harm reduction, substance use disorder prevention, intervention, and treatment. 0 0 182279 83370 We support those in early and late stages of recovery through transitional recovery housing programs. We operate six properties, with thirty current residents. Our program is designed to be trauma informed, provide structure, and ultimately help individuals eliminate the plethora of obstacles they face in early recovery in order to recreate their lives. Our housing program costs residents $170 per week. This provides them with access to a structured and trauma-informed living environment, in house management, random weekly drug tests, organic food options, and weekly house meetings that are attended by residents, in house, and out of house management. Many of our residents move in with no money, no job, and no support. Fortunately, through the support of our community, we are able to sponsor them for at the very least their first two weeks, and provide them with these services all the same. Today, we are able to offer the residents of our six transitional homes access to more than just structured living, via programs and services including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Project Healing Hive, Workforce Development, Kickboxing classes with SMT Academy, Yoga, Reiki, access to a Nutritional Therapist and a full kitchen organic food options. All of these services and more are offered to our residents free of any additional charge. Residents of our program are required to participate in at least one of the programs listed above, as well as complete 90 AA/NA meetings in 90 days, get a sponsor, work the 12 steps, obtain gainful employment, and get a program sponsor. Upon graduating our program, residents are offered an opportunity for growth within Savage Sisters, as assistant house manager, house manager, and eventually property manager. Of the six house managers we currently have, four were promoted from resident to house manager. Additionally, individuals are offered growth upon completion of their role as house manager. House managers live on property, which for many of our residents, is not possible long term. One of our two current property managers had to move out in order to regain custody of her children. We were able to offer her an opportunity to stay in the program as a team member and employee of Savage Sisters as Property Manager. Thus, our housing program serves those in the early, and late stages of recovery. Our dynamic housing program was created by our founder, Sarah Laurel, in response to the lack of decent or ethical recovery homes for women recovering from homelessness and substance misuse issues in the Philadelphia area. Sarah implemented the services and resources she used to get sober to design the program we use today. Her lived experience guides our mission, and has allowed us to remain altruistic in our efforts. Since our founding, we have grown to serve both men and women, and through the support of our community, we have made a real difference in thousands of lives. Tuesday night events serve at least 75 people, and Saturday morning events serve at least 250. The events consist of the distribution of materials, administration of wound care, coordination to vaccines, initiation of a clean up and beautification of the neighborhood we serve in, and transportation and assistance into local treatment facilities. Our street-based outreach is dedicated to eliminating overdose deaths in our community. We seek to make sure that anyone who wants Narcan can access it, and also knows how to effectively administer the overdose reversing system. Materials distributed consist of clothing, winter jackets, socks, gloves, hats, blankets, sleeping bags, hot meals, healthy snacks, water, coffee, hot chocolate, harm reduction equipment, Narcan, syringes, fentanyl test strips, triple antibiotic cream, PPE equipment, masks, hand sanitizer, hot hands, hygiene kits, and more. The equipment we distribute directly reduces the spread of infectious diseases, reduces overdose deaths, and provides a community that's been neglected some dignity, compassion, and basic support. Our wound care station provides people suffering from minor abrasions, cuts, and sores with basic medical support such as a cleaning of the wound, triple antibiotic application, and a wrapping of the wound. Those who have wounds too serious for us to help with are encouraged to go to the hospital, which we provide transportation to. Another aspect of our Outreach events is the provision of vaccines. Our organization has coordinated and partnered with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health to provide those we serve with Flu, Hepatitis A/B, Covid 19, and Pneumonia vaccines. The Department of Health sets up a table and tent next to ours, and we refer people to get vaccinated. Additionally, our team leads a beautification effort, so that whenever we host an event, we leave the area cleaner than we found it. We also provide a safer environment, as we pick up used needles, and turn them into the needle exchange in Kensington. The last aspect of our Outreach efforts is the provision of transportation to treatment facilities. During events, our team gets an opportunity to engage with the community we serve at a one on one level. During these engagements, team members are encouraged to discuss the availability of transportation to anyone willing to begin their recovery journey, and go to treatment. Many of the people on the streets that we serve do not have the desire to stop using, but so many do, and don't have any idea how to begin the process. Our organization is small, and grassroots. In the previous filing year we had revenue that was less then $50,000. We have never had to file the normal 990 before, so getting access to it, properly filling it out, and finding out how to submit it took longer then expected.
