It is a collaborative ministry of Catholic religious men and women supporting the people of Africa, especially South Sudan. It does this by supporting organizations and institutions that train teachers, nurses, midwives, farmers and pastoral teams. Despite the closing of the CHTI from March to October 2020 due to COVID19, 41 students graduated from the three year program in June 2021. This program is based in Wau, South Sudan and is the first registered nurses program in the country. It was established in 2010 and since 2013 has matriculated 270 health care professionals. This program is supported by Solidarity with South Sudan and the Catholic priests, brothers and sisters working together with the laity to build the capacity of the people. The buildings, renovated with funding from Catholic organizations are the property of the Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference. 85550 85550 0 Solidarity Teacher Training College- Friends in Solidarity supported the two year-preservice teacher training program with grants totaling $66,150 and the in-service program, which upgrades existing teachers, with a grant of $19,400. 550 certified teachers have graduated from the two programs since 2013. While the programs were closed from March 2020 until February 2021, the teachers, staff were paid and the campus secured. There is a need for 26,000 teachers in the country and 70% of school age children are not in school. 81050 81050 0 Good Shepherd Peace Center - $81,050 was granted for programs and staff at this conference center, the only one of its kind in the country. It offers programs of renewal, the training trauma healing providers and peace-makers, as well as counselling workshops and retreats. Solidarity with South Sudan has an annual budget process to determine needed funding. Funding, when secured and designated, is transferred to Solidarity with South Sudan or a related organization which signs and returns a grant agreement for the amount received and how and by when it will be used. Reports are requested as required by donors along with financial reports per project. These are then compiled and sent to donors here in the USA. Finances of Solidarity with South Sudan are annually audited and that is shared with the US partner organization. Regular communication is forthcoming from Solidarity and, usually, the Chief Adm. Officer of the US organization visits South Sudan on an annual basis to verify the work being done and supported by the US organization. The Board of Directors and the Members are asked to declare any conflict of interest prior to any meeting. This is recorded in the Minutes. A summary of financial statements and distribution of fund is shared annually with partner organizations. Form 990, Part XII, Line 1 The accounting system was changed to the accruel system as required by Standard Auditing procedures. Form 990, Part XII, Line 2c This is the first full audit of the organization. Prior to this, the financial accounts were carefully vetted by a person with an MBA and thirty years experience with preparing for audits. She just was not a CPA. The Board decided we needed to do an audit. The Finance and Audit Committee oversees this process. Requested an exemption as we needed to complete an audit which extended beyond the due date.
