The museum collection refers to all artifacts owned by the city of pacific Grove and maintained at the museum as identified in the museum collection survey conducted in February 2010, including those exhibited, stored and located within the city of Pacific Grove's point pinos lighthouse. All collection items which are acquired by the foundation through purchases and contributions since the foundation's inception are not recognized as assets on the balance sheet. Purchases of collection items are recorded as decreases in unrestricted net assets in the year in which the items are acquired or as temporarily restricted net assets if the assets used to purchase the items are restricted by donors.
