Receiving the scholarship funds and staying in the program will depend on progress. To assess this, the Organization obtains feedback from the Program Coordinator and other staff. Recipients are encouraged to maintain regular and timely attendance and fully participate in the skills training and practice. Part I, Line 2 Form 990, Part I, Line 1, Description of Organization Mission: To transform the lives of refugees and immigrants by providing pathways to sustainable employment in the food industry and to enrich our community through exploring ethnic culture and cuisine. Form 990, Part III, line 2 The Organization launched a new program in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic: Community Meals. For this program, we prepared nutritious, culturally appropriate meals for food-insecure families. Apprentices in our Culinary Skills Apprenticeship helped to prepare these meals Form 990, Part III, Line 4a, Program Service Accomplishments: During 2020, Project Feast's program service accomplishments included: I. The Organization continued our 400-hour culinary skills apprenticeship training program at our commercial kitchen in Kent, WA. We accepted refugees and immigrants from low-income backgrounds who are passionate about cooking and wanting to pursue a career in the food industry. Once they complete the program, they receive continuing education credits from Highline College, which can be converted to academic credits if they choose to enroll in the college in the future. In 2020, the Organization provided training services to 9 refugees and immigrants from 5 countries: Mexico, South Korea, Kenya, Costa Rica, and Guatemala. 4 apprentices graduated in August 2020, and 5 apprentices who started the program in September 2020 graduated in February 2021. We also launched a transitional employment opportunity for graduates who wanted more restaurant experience. For this program, we hired two recent alumni to work with us part-time for up to 1 year. II. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Organization had to pivot our services as we could no longer offer dine-in services at our cafe, and catering was non-existent due to the ban on large gatherings. We began offering a take-out option consisting of "Family Meals." Each week, we would offer a menu focused on ethnic cuisine inspired by past and present participants in our Culinary Skills Apprenticeship. These meals helped us to share the stories of our apprentices and introduce customers to their delicious foods. From late April to mid-December, we sold close to 900 orders, serving more than 3000 people. III.
