Priority went to businesses that do not qualify for existing city, state, or federal COVID-19 aid. WSCO also continued to administer Commercial Vitality Zone grants to small business to help with facade and other improvements to ensure business continue to thrive on the West Side for years to come. 122616 112407 HOUSING JUSTICE AND EQUITABLE DEVELOPMENT SCORECARD: WSCO advocated for tenant rights by working on the SAFE tenant protection city ordinance as well as advocating for affordable housing, healthy living conditions, and more for all 16,000 West Side residents. This effort included formally adding WSCO's Equitable Development Scorecard through the City of St. Paul's Planning Commission as an amendment to St. Paul's West Side 10-Year Plan. WSCO successfully activated the West Side Scorecard team, composed of community members to vet all development coming to the West Side. 96087 92650 WEST SIDE VITALITY: WSCO's West Side Solidarity Fund raised $60,000 for direct aid to tenants who lost income due to COVID-related unemployment and people unable to access federal resources due to immigration status. Over 70% of families served were single female heads of household. Other efforts included a socially distanced winter clothing drive, mutual aid food distributions, and CSAs with over 500 families served, organized in front of local apartment buildings. WSCO completed a vibrant large gateway community mural in one of the historic major entry points to the West Side, demonstrating community resilience, pride, and joy during the COVID pandemic and racial unrest. WSCO also launched a "Community Care" team that is a network of residents that are committed to keeping each other safe. WSCO developed and implemented a second "Action to Equity" series that educated and equipped West Side residents for advocating for equity in decisions impacting the West Side. WSCO pivoted its programming, including the annual meeting, to be virtual during the pandemic and provided access to technology to those who would otherwise be unable to participate 22830 22875 LEADERSHIP: WSCO used community organizing to support leadership development of residents on our committees and in our Black, Indigenous, and Women of Color, Men of Color, and Trans and Queer affinity groups.
