In addition, the implement the membership program and ensure our members receive strong benefits that help achieve their goals. Government and public affairs: Government and public affairs is responsible for all government affairs work and developing partnerships with government and other non-governmental organizations to promote the value of the arts and mission of AFTA's two key programs, including herein are the annual Nancy Hanks lecture on arts and public policy and arts advocacy day activities. This area also includes our arts education policy work advancing equitable access for arts education across the country. Communications and marketing: Communications and marketing includes communications efforts to help inform top level decision makers and thought leaders in business, the social sector, education and the public about the value of the arts in education and community life across the nation. Leadership alliances: Leadership alliances includes National Arts Awards that recognize and celebrate the achievements of individuals and organizations who have exhibited outstanding leadership in the arts, arts education and philanthropy; and the National Arts Policy roundtable that convenes top level decision makers and thought leaders from the fields of business, government, the social sector, education, and the arts in a forum to discuss issues and solutions critical to advancing American culture and vitality. Private sector: Private sector works to educate business and foundation leaders on the ways the arts can help them achieve their goals such as workforce and community development. Several programs in this area include the Business Committee for the Arts Executive Board, BCA 10 Annual Awards program, Private Sector Network, Business Volunteers for the Arts and Partnership Movement Campaign. Strategic Partners are core to this work and include organizations such as the Conference Board, Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy, Independent Sector and Council on Philanthropy. Special projects: Special projects includes the animating democracy program that seeks to use the arts to encourage civic engagement; the Johnson Fellowship/Act award provides the Act fellow with time to pursue his/her creative work in communities.
