There is a 3.5 meter general purpose telescope and a survey specialized 2.5 meter Sloan Foundation telescope. The telescopes have distinct purposes in the service of their constituencies. 0 0 10522560 5056407 The 3.5 meter telescope benefits the research faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and public outreach programs of each member institution. Using innovative remote software, astronomers can operate and collect data from anywhere in the world. The telescope has a suite of cameras and spectrographs that serve a wide variety of scientific endeavors, resulting in more than 50 refereed science results being published each year. There is an active outreach program at the observatory and at member institutions. The 2.5 meter telescope, which operates the SDSS-IV survey projects, had a productive year. The ongoing SDSS-IV project is a collaboration of more than 60 institutions and 600 astronomers. The primary foci of the survey this year were the on-going operations at Apache Point Observatory and at Las Campanas Observatory. Reg 1.170A-9(f)(3). A high percentage of support comes from government institutions, specifically state universities. All the donors that make up the public support percentage of revenue are unrelated to ARC. The board of directors is composed of representatives from a number of higher educational institutions, many of them governmental, that represent broad interests in astrophysical research. ARC provides benefit to the general public, specifically, continuous educational outreach and the survey data. The survey data taken at the telescopes is released to the public twelve to twenty four months afterwards. The members and participants in the program are astronomers and professors in Astronomy and have special knowledge and expertise in that subject. Each project is a definitive program for accomplishing the charitable purpose of the organization. Funds received for each project may only be used for that particular project or a special item in that project, which are conditions of the contributions. There are bi-annual reviews of the individual Conflict of Interest statements by the governance committee, which determines whether a conflict exists. All statements are kept on file. Board members are expected to disclose conflicts as they may arise on the honor system, with the oversight of the governance committee. If a conflict exists or arises during the course of the business, the governance committee investigates and determines any action to take in accordance with the policy. This may include a member being prohibited from participating in the deliberations and decisions with respect to the transaction.
