The money that is sent there is used primarily in three ways. The first is the school. They have established a school, K through 12 grades. The average per capita income is only $1,300 a year so the students cannot afford to pay the full tuition. We send approximately $100,000 a year to assist the school in paying teacher salaries and other expenses related to the education of these young people. The second major area is the orphanage. The church operates a full-time orphanage for 20 to 25 little girls who have been taken by the government from abusive situations. We send approximately $55,000 a year to help them operate the orphanage. The money is used for food, offering for workers, medical expenses, and school expenses. The school and orphanage have both been operating since the year 2000. The third area that money is used for is to help plant new churches in the mountains. In the past 25 years they have planted 68 churches. We assist by sending money to help them build new, small buildings for worship. Another area that money is being sent there for is a medical clinic. The average person cannot afford even the most basic of healthcare, therefore we have sent approximately $80,000 in 2018 to help build a small Medical Clinic to help the poorest of the poor to have some kind of Health Care. Another area of expense is for volunteers who go to Honduras. Approximately 60-80 people go each year, at an average cost of approximately $1,200 each. The President provides written instructions to the Treasurer stating the date the grant is to be made and the amount of the grant. He also provides information as to how the total amount of the grant is to be shared between each project. The grant funds are then sent by wire by the Treasurer to the recipient of the grant in Honduras. The wire transfer transmittal is verified the next business day and the transaction is entered into our accounting system. Our Board of Directors make trips to Honduras several times each year to review the progress of each project we are supporting. Our President has regular conversations with our contact in Fuente de Vida in Honduras. FVD has a bookkeeper who is keeping records of how the funds are being disbursed so we can be sure that the funds are being used as intended. Our President receives Excel spreadsheets each month that indicates the money received from HFOL and exactly how the funds are spent. Pt VI, Line 11b The 990 is prepared by independent accountants, reviewed by management, presented to the Board for review, proposed revisions and final approval.
