Fiscal sponsored funds are held for community projects for committees seeking nonprofit tax-exempt status. The Foundation receives and distributes the funds for qualified expenses. Part V, Line 4: Net investment earnings from endowment funds are used for community granting to nonprofit organizations. Part X, Line 2: MAF is organized as a Minnesota nonprofit corporation and has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as exempt from federal income taxes under Section 50l(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. MAF Holdings maintains exempt status under the Foundation's exemption since the Foundation is the sole member of MAF. The Foundation is annually required to file a Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax (Form 990) with the IRS. In addition, the Foundation is subject to income tax on net income that is derived from business activities that are unrelated to the exempt purpose.
