<Desc>Health and Nutrition Health and nutrition play a vital role in the well being of sustainable development, as an outbreak of disease can have global repercussions as well as disastrous economic impact locally. At World Hope International, we focus on child and maternal health; healthcare accessibility; and combating infectious diseases. In 2018, we collected over 900 notifications of death, with the data expected to yield great benefits to the improvement of health care; trained 1,008 Community Health Workers and 112 Peer Supervisors in Sierra Leone; conducted home visits to 5,889 pregnant women for counseling and behavior change communication to improve updates to health services; and screened and referred 2,614 children for treatment for malnutrition. We also performed 1,461 home visits and provided 227 pieces of equipment to help children improve their functional ability.</Desc>

<Desc>Emergency Response Because sustainable economic development also depends on a healthy planet, World Hope International responds responsibly to natural disasters as well as works to build disaster resiliency in vulnerable communities around the world. In 2018, World Hope International responded to 10 emergencies globally, including Typhoon Yutu, Hurricane Michael, the California wildfires, a volcano in Guatemala, and an earthquake in Papua New Guinea. We work closely with partners to provide the best possible response and delivered 50,000 lbs of emergency supplies with 150 flights to remote communities in Florida after Hurricane Michael; supplied 40 air scrubbers to hospitals and shelters during the California Wildfires; and provided safe drinking water to 350 people living in shelters following Typhoon Yutu in Saipan.</Desc>

<Desc>Water and Sanitation Through its Water and Sanitation Program, World Hope is committed to providing clean water sources and improved sanitation facilities to communities in developing countries worldwide. We also combat infectious disease through our WASH work, providing access to clean water through wells and clean, tapped water and promoting good sanitation and hygiene practices. In 2018, World Hope Drilled 100 wells across Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Mozambique, including 1 well at a hospital, 30 wells on school grounds, and 69 community wells, impacting 70,910 beneficiaries. We also provided training to 99 Water Committees across the 3 countries on how to maintain wells, equipping at least 686 committee members to sustain clean water; constructed 6 water towers and installed 5 solar pumps, as well as toilets and showers at 4 health posts globally; and constructed hazardous waste disposal facilities at 20 health posts, benefiting over 40,000 people.</Desc>

<Desc>Economic Development Programs provide subsistence to farmers-who make up the majority of the world's rural poor-with the tools, knowledge, and market connections to grow, consume, and sell more produce. Within these communities, improved agricultural outputs lead to improved health (family members have healthier diets), increased levels of education (children can go to school when the family makes more money), and improved livelihoods (more money can be spent on necessities like health care, electricity, and modern sanitation). That's why in 2018, 1,500 farmers benefited from our GRO greenhouses in Sierra Leone, receiving 8,500 grams of seeds and harvesting 750kg of vegetables, including cucumber, okra, watermelon and other vegetables and fruits. Conservation is another important factor and the GRO greenhouse program saved 4,300 gallons of water by small-holder farmers using the GRO greenhouse solution.</Desc>

<Desc>Anti-Trafficking and Anti-Gender-Based Violence World Hope's Anti-Trafficking and Anti-Gender-Based Violence Program works in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cambodia, and the Philippines to prevent occurrences and treat survivors of human trafficking and gender-based violence. At World Hope International, we believe that by improving their skills, knowledge, and resilience-their human capital-vulnerable populations can become more productive, flexible, and innovative. Sustainable growth and poverty reduction are driven by human capital, and that's why World Hope International invests in protection projects that address anti-human trafficking and gender-based violence in addition to access to education, youth empowerment, and more. In 2018, 73 social workers were trained on best practices for caring for survivors of Online Sexual Exploitation of Children in the Philippines; 120 women were offered services for D/V in Cambodia and 50 Cambodian men participated in support groups facilitated by WHI, to combat domestic violence; and 152 caregivers working at aftercare shelters were provided with specialized care-giving training in the Philippines by WHI staff all through our countering human trafficking and anti-gender-based violence efforts. Not only that, but 176 community members, including men, were educated and sensitized about women and girls' rights, gender equality, and sexual violence against women and children.</Desc>

<Desc>Child Sponsorship World Hope maintains a Child Sponsorship Program that is integrated with our other seven programs for maximum long-term impact. In a traditional sponsorship program, individual investments ensure that children are enrolled in school-with the appropriate uniforms and supplies-so they can pursue their education. With World Hope's program, in addition to this, World Hope invests in entire communities, so the benefit can be more widespread and sustainable. In 2018, we had 1,580 active sponsors with over 600 letters sent by sponsors, and we opened two new sponsorship sites in Haiti and five new sponsorship sites in Sierra Leone through our partnerships with villages. Education World Hope believes that a quality education for all children is the key to reducing poverty worldwide. World Hope's Education Program includes child sponsorship, as well as education initiatives in Sierra Leone, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Azerbaijan. We provided over 1,000 children in Sierra Leone with school supplies; engaged 100 individuals in Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and School Management Committee (SMC) in the Philippines, who learned about child protection/ child safeguarding to strengthen their roles as duty bearers; and had 109 sponsored students graduate worldwide through our efforts to ensure access to education. Further, we also trained 207 community early childhood development workers and mother support group members on conducting Early Childhood Development activities and, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, had 217 students participate in education programs including tutoring and community programs and 38 received tailored tutoring or speech therapy sessions.</Desc>

<ExplanationTxt>World Hope follows the authoritative guidance relating to accounting for uncertainty in income taxes included in FASB ASC Topic 740, Income Taxes. These provisions provide consistent guidance for accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an entity's financial statements and prescribe a threshold of more likely than not for recognition and derecognition of tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. WHI performed an evaluation of uncertainty in income taxes for the year ended December 31, 2018, and determined that there were no matters that would require recognition in the consolidated financial statements or that may have any effect on its tax-exempt status. As of December 31, 2018, the statute of limitations for tax years 2015 through 2017 remained open with the U.S. federal jurisdiction or the various states and local jurisdictions in which WHI files tax returns, however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress. It is WHI's policy to recognize interest and/or penalties related to uncertainty in income taxes, if any, in interest or income tax expense. As of December 31, 2018, WHI had no accruals for interest and/or penalties.</ExplanationTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>In countries where World Hope does not have a field office, educational initiatives such as tuition payments and providing uniforms/school supplies to children without means are administered through partnering organizations and community groups. World Hope establishes a memo of understanding with each entity that refers to the policy and procedures manual for the program. World Hope then monitors the grants it awards to other organizations by requiring periodic program and financial reports. World Hope's staff or representatives visit field projects and grantees to review performance against memos of understanding or grantee agreements. World Hope funded its Canadian affiliate to build the World Hope brand and to build their capacity. There is an agreement in place and site visits are made periodically.</ExplanationTxt>
