The community organizations included Northern Nevada Medical Center, Saint Mary's Hospital, Washoe County Health District, and Healthy People Nevada Moving 2010 to 2020 report. Renown Regional Medical Center Part V, Section B, Line 6a: Renown South Meadows Medical Center and Renown Rehabiliation Hospital Renown Regional Medical Center Part V, Section B, Line 6b: Washoe County Health District Renown Regional Medical Center Part V, Section B, Line 11: The Community Benefits Implementation Strategy was approved in June 2015. In FY17, Renown Regional Medical Center, Renown South Meadows Medical Center, and Renown Rehabilitation Hospital along with other related entities, made substantial progress on our Community Benefit priorities. Below is a brief list of accomplishments of each of the priority areas identified in the plan: Behavioral Health - In FY17, we invested in behavioral health resources "up-stream" so that we have fewer patients presenting at our Emergency Rooms "in crisis". The Behavioral Health Institute completed over 380 free behavioral health screenings in the community.Childhood Immunizations - Renown Health partnered with Immunize Nevada to increase access points for children to get immunizations and also increase educational opportunities for healthcare professionals so that providers become stronger advocates for their patients to understand and receive vaccinations. During FY17, Immunize Nevada, with a Renown grant, participated in 27 events where over 30,000 lives where touched. From these events, there were 1,266 vaccines given to uninsured children and over 500 professionals were trained in WebIZ. Senior Flu Shot Outreach - A partnership with Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada was developed to expand immunization services to homebound and other low-income individuals over the age of 60 who are unlikely to receive immunizations through other programs and clinics. During FY17, the program provided 295 vaccines to underserved seniors and 311 in-home assessments of safety and well-being and education into health and wellness. Dental Care - Renown has partnered with Community Health Alliance (CHA), a local FQHC to provide oral health services to underserved populations, specifically underserved adults. In FY17, CHA provided 231 dental exams, 106 emergency exams, 114 extractions, 44 regular cleanings, 117 deep cleanings, 381 restorations (fillings and crowns), 14 dentures (full and partial), 32 denture repairs/relines, 131 nutritional counseling, and 137 oral hygiene instruction. Prenatal Care - The Centering Pregnancy model of group prenatal care was utilized by The Pregnancy Center. This dynamic care model integrates health assessment, education, and support in a group setting with courses that include nutrition, exercise and relaxation and family violence and abuse awareness. In FY17, more than 60 women completed Centering training with excellent health outcomes, including a reduced number of premature and/or low birth-weight babies and more women breastfeeding upon discharge. These patients represent about 5 percent of the patients overall who obtain services at the Pregnancy Center annually.Mammography Screening - Renown Health and Northern Nevada HOPES, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) partnered to increase availability of mammography screenings for low-income senior women as well as to provide patient care coordination. In FY 17, the partnership provided women with 237 mammogram screenings, 101 diagnostic mammograms, 103 ultrasounds, and 6 biopsy combined with a tissue marker. Two women were diagnosed with breast cancer as a result of the services provided.Community Hub - During FY17, in collaboration with Truckee Meadows Healthy Communities and several partners, a community hub was created to increase accessibility of needed services in the community by providing services and health education. The community hub offered 3 Family Health Festival events. These events served over 900 community members. Over 150 community-based organizations participated. Organizations that participated provided services such as flu vaccinations, dental fluoride treatments, the Food Bank's mobile pantry, health screenings for kids and adults, DACA & Immigration support, job application and resume help, SNAP assistance, Head Start/affordable day care registration and a variety of other free services. Safe Kids & Child Passenger Safety Fitting Station - The Northern Nevada Child Passenger Safety Seat Fitting Station is a full-time facility that offers child vehicle safety restraint education, inspection and installation. As of 2015, the station is solely operated by Renown Health. For FY17, The Child Passenger Safety Fitting Station at Renown reached 1,573 children and of those children, 72% received new, safer car seats.Partnership with Local Non-Profit - For FY17, Renown Health partnered with Girls on the Run to provide girls between the grades of 3rd-8th with evidence-based curriculum that will raise emotional, mental and physical development. A total of 504 girls at 25 schools in Washoe County were served. The partnership reached twelve more schools, of which nine are Title I schools. Healthy foods - Renown Health worked with Urban Roots and supported in-ground community gardens, school-based gardening and nutrition education. As a result of the collaboration, construction of an Urban Farm was completed. The Urban Farm provided vegetables to low-income families through partnerships with local food pantries. Additionally, Urban Roots developed Farm to School, an educational curriculum that meets Next Generation Science Standards as well as Common Core reading and math standards. During FY17, the Farm-to-School educators visited school sites and worked with 2,452 students in 12 schools delivering curriculum. 57% of the surveyed students demonstrated an improved preference for healthy foods, an increased interest in school and learning, or both.Identified Needs Not Being AddressedWe believe that our plan will allow us to start addressing some of the most pressing health needs in our community, but we recognize that we will not be able to tackle every issue we would like. Two issues in particular are substance abuse and adult obesity. Here are the reasons these health needs are not addressed as part of our plan.Substance Abuse: This community health need is being addressed by over 25 other organizations that offer a variety of substance abuse services including counseling, clinical treatment, rehabilitation, and social support for substance users. Join Together Northern Nevada also regularly convenes organizations for community wide efforts related to substance abuse.Adult Obesity: As part of Renown Health's high-quality healthcare services, we continue to work with all of our adult patients to address health concerns such as obesity. We do this one on one with patients through their doctors, or through visits and referrals to our nutritionists, or through our weekly health newsletter offering healthy lifestyle tips. In addition, we routinely arrange for classes and lectures on topics related to overall health including having speakers on proper exercise and nutrition. There is no new work being done in addition to the services we currently provide. Renown Regional Medical Center Part V, Section B, Line 13h: In addition to the federal poverty guidelines, we also consider eligibility for state assistance programs and homelessness or no documentation to establish indigence as factors in determining eligibility. All patients are expected to make a financial contribution towards their bill and are subject to pay at least a minimal co-payment so technically no free care is provided. A financial counselor is made available to all self-pay patients upon admission. Part VI, Line 2: Explanation: The organization reviews the current demographic information of the population it serves and the impact those demographics have on the health needs of the community. See explanation 4 for a description of the community. While the demographics start to tell the story of community health needs, Renown Health also consults with community partners and draws from state and local government, non-profits, and school district data sources to assess healthcare needs in the community. Renown Health also used data from the Washoe County Health District to identify health care needs and barriers in its service area. Renown Health's Community Benefit Committee spearheads the development of an annual community needs assessment and corresponding community benefit plan, and oversees the tracking and reporting of community benefit activities.
