GENESIS reached over 800 students through their mobile innovation lab, the GENESIS innovation lab at Challengers, Boys and Girls Club, Girls and Tech program, as well as their newest Innovation lab open at the Marciano Art Foundation. Genesis @ Marciano Art Foundation (MAF)- The Genesis @ MAF lab provides access to the latest technologies including a laser cutter, 3D printer, Vinyl printing as well as a VR/media room. In-kind support from the museum includes bussing scholarships for museum field trips provided to all Title-1 schools. Genesis aims to reach over 100 schools a year, providing access to STEAM education for thousands of students. Innovation Lab @ Challengers Boys & Girls Club The Genesis Lab provides afterschool and summer classes in STEAM learning. It is a 1,500 square foot Innovation Lab offering daily afterschool and summer STEAM programming and includes a technology lab, computer lab, radio station and multi-media editing center for the children and youth. Available equipment for students to work with includes: 3D printers, laser cutting, Occulus Rift Virtual Reality System, production equipment, robotics, maker tools, and computers with design software. Mobile Innovation Lab This unique 36-foot-long trailer, sponsored by the Brotman Foundation, is outfitted as a state-of-the-art digital makerspace complete with 3D printers, VR, robotics, and maker tools. The lab travels to afterschool programs, community organizations, libraries, and community events providing innovative residencies to engage students in STEAM learning. Girls-in-Tech From the beginning, Genesis has recognized the many barriers that exist to engaging girls in the STEAM economy of the future. The Girls and Tech program is led by a highly skilled STEAM educator who is a role model for girls considering STEAM careers. The program works with teams of girls on special design projects and connects the girls to mentors in STEAM professions and businesses in the community. An example of Girls-in-Tech projects includes a recent partnership with e-NABLE, a global network of volunteers making assistive devices available to the disabled, and the USC 3D printing program to develop 3D printed prosthetic hands for children in need. GENESIS works only with Schools and community organizations that have a nondiscrimination policy in place.
