In 2017, the University initiated a deaccessioning process to remove works of art from the Sordoni Art Gallery collection. This initiative coincided with the change in mission of the Sordoni Art Gallery from a collecting gallery to an exhibition gallery. Approximately 1,000 works of art were turned over to various auction houses and were either sold or are held for sale as of May 31, 2017. The Board of Trustees designated the proceeds from the sales as well as existing funds as an endowment to provide future funds for the Gallery.
