The Society, along with other county medical societies, supports the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the American Medical Association. The Society's mission includes: upholding the ethics and dignity of the medical profession, elevating and maintaining the highest standards of healthcare, promotion and disseminating medical information to members as well as the public, and promoting collegial relations among its members. Dauphin County Medical Society (DCMS) produces a quarterly magazine, Central PA Medicine, to keep members and the general public informed on current medical issues on the national, state and local levels. Central PA Medicine provides a forum to welcome new members, discuss new and cutting-edge medical procedures of interest, and inform the readership of the projects and programs undertaken by DCMS and DCMS Alliance. DCMS also uses email blasts to advise its members of upcoming events and Calls to Action. DCMS maintains a website which provides resources for members and the general public. 0 0 The Dauphin County Medical Society hosted its 13th Annual Doc Talk Event at the Capital City Mall on April 9, 2016. This annual event at a busy area mall offers the opportunity for area residents to discuss health questions and concerns with physicians of various specialties. Physicians from twelve area practices were available to share information and answer questions from the general public.DCMS physicians also participated in the Ask-a-Doctor event at Strawberry Square in Harrisburg, PA on April 19, 2016. This midday event offers downtown workers and visitors to Strawberry Square a chance to ask questions about health topics or issues of concern. 0 0 The Scott A. Gunder MD Dauphin County Medical Society Presidential Scholarship was established in honor of Scott Gunder, MD who passed away during his term as DCMS President. Members of the Gunder Scholarship Committee review applications from deserving medical students at Penn State College of Medicine. The 2016 Gunder Scholarship Award recipient was Emily Galli. The Dauphin County Medical Society Excellence in Clinical Nursing Award is presented annually to a deserving Harrisburg Area Community college student. In return for these services, the society pays PAMED a monthly base fee of $7,421.
