Care & Share USA is administered entirely by volunteers, none of whom receives any compensation for services rendered or time committed to the organization (including the preparation of its yearly tax returns). Because of this, each year Care & Share USA is able to send almost the entirety of the funds raised to India, where such funds are spent on programs that, while limited in scope, make a real difference in the lives of destitute children. Unfortunately, commitments related to his regular, overseas employment over the last several months have prevented the organization's President, who has volunteered his time to compiling and filing Care & Share USA's tax returns for the past dozen years, from attending to the matter until now. Moreover, a problem of miscommunication has resulted in the failure to submit a request for an automatic extension back in May. Since 2005, Care & Share USA has submitted late returns on two previous occasions. As in those instances, Care & Share USA seeks the IRS's understanding in requesting that no penalties be assessed for the late filing of this return, in recognition of the valid nature of the reasons provided as well as in view of the fact that any penalties assessed would inevitably reduce the funds available to the organization to finance charity programs overseas.
