Further, ASC 740-10-25 prescribes the benefit to be recorded in the financial statements as the amount most likely to be realized assuming a review by the tax authorities having all relevant information and applying current conventions. ASC 740-10-25 also clarifies the financial statement classification of tax related penalties and interest and sets forth disclosures regarding unrecognized tax benefits. The Council does not believe there are any uncertain tax positions that should be recorded. No interest or penalties were included in the consolidated statements of activities for the years ended December 31, 2015 or 2014. Tax years going back to 2012 remain open to examination. Should the Council need to accrue interest or penalties on uncertain tax positions, it would recognize the interest as interest expense and the penalties as other expenses.
