Community Planning and Advocacy: WSCO coordinates neighborhood responses to variance and permit requests, provides direction to the City of St.Paul for public planning and funding allocation and informs and educates developers, business owners and residents regarding West Side community plans and navigating the city approval process. In 2014, WSCO continued to work with the West Side Initiative to being to implement aspects of the 10 year West Side Comprehensive Plan. 0 3620 Environmental Awareness and Advocacy: The West Side neighborhood is defined by the Mississippi River on three sides and by its river bluff's, yet it is also home to a disproportionate number of brownfield and industrial sites. As a result, the environment is at the forefront of WSCO's awareness for the community's quality of life. In 2014, WSCO continued work on an environmental justice through supporting urban agriculture and clean energy initiatives. 0 64538 Neighborhood engagement and youth development: A major component to building healthy communities is engaging all residents to work together to improve collective quality of life. WSCO organized a number of community building initiatives and events, including the neighborhood clean up and the first annual Mother Earth Fest. Collectively, WSCO engaged over 1,000 residents last year in various events and initiatives. 0 4542 Food Justice Program: The goals of the food justice program are to create sustainable access to healthy foods by ensuring a diversity of purchasing and distribution channels,expanding opportunities to grow produce, sell and share food at the local level: and increase community engagement in advancing policies and practices that grow equitable food security on the West side.
