In partnership with the Georgia Department of Human Services, GCAPP operates a network of 4 Second Chance Homes. The Second Chance Home model is designed to address the myriad of issues related to teen pregnancy and literally give teen mothers, who are at greatest risk, a second chance at success. The Second Chance Homes Network helps teen mothers become self sufficient by providing them a safe and stable living environment, educational support to complete high school, parenting skills, and life skills. The ultimate goal is the avoidance of a repeat teen pregnancy and put the young mothers on a firm path of long-term economic independence. Since the first Second Chance Home opened in 2001, the program has served over 1300 young mothers and their children. 1138616 We Are Change: Richmond County for a Brighter Future... a CDC Initiative We Are Change is a prevention program focused on Richmond County (Augusta) which has one of the highest teen pregnancy and birth rates in the state. Funded by the CDC and administered by GCAPP, the project is part of a national initiative to decrease teen pregnancy by implementing proven effective programs. This is expected to lead to an increase in the percentage of teens who delay sex, and an increase in the consistent and correct use of contraception among teenagers that are sexually active. The ultimate goal is to reduce teen pregnancy in Richmond County by 10% by 2015. 933868 8360 Through GCAPP's WISE initiative (Working to Institutionalize Sex Education) GCAPP is the leading organization in building the state's infrastructure to institutionalize medically accurate, age appropriate improved sexual health education in Georgia's schools. WISE is currently working in Clarke, Hall, Fulton, Floyd, Dougherty, Grady, and DeKalb counties. Since 2009 GCAPP has trained over 400 teachers in 160 schools reaching over 20,000 students. GCAPP Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) educates high risk students on both abstinence and contraception and STDs. Through PREP, GCAPP trains staff at youth serving organizations in 10 counties: Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Muscogee, Chatham, Dougherty, Bibb, Clayton, Richmond and Cobb. PREP will serve more than 3,000 youth at the end of its five-year program.
