On July 1, 2009, the Academy adopted the recognition requirements for uncertain income tax positions as required by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) ASC 740-10 (formerly known as FASB Interpretation No. 48, Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes), with no cumulative effect adjustment required. Income tax benefits are recognized for income tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return, only when it is determined that the income tax position will more likely-than-not be sustained upon examination by taxing authorities. The Academy has analyzed tax positions taken for filing with the Internal Revenue Service and state jurisdiction where they operate. The Academy believes that income tax filing positions will be sustained upon examination and do not anticipate any adjustments that would result in a material adverse affect on their respective financial condition, results of operation or cash flows. Accordingly, the Academy has not recorded any reserves, or related accruals for interest and penalties for uncertain income tax positions at June 30, 2014. 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 Schedule E, Part I, Line 3 The School's Nondiscriminatory Policy is listed on the website and in all recruitment and enrollment materials. Schedule E, Part I, Line 6 The school receives federal and state funding. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11 The Form 990 is prepared by an independent accounting firm and reviewed by the school's contracted finance manager prior to submission to the IRS. The finance committee reviews the complete 990 as well. The entire board approves the complete 990. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c All Directors and Officers are required to submit an annual statement that discloses any relationships that may give rise to potential conflicts of interest. The Board of Directors and School Administrators complete required training on what may constitute a conflict of interest and both review the conflict of interest annual statements and conflicts that arise during the year. Any Director who has a potential conflict of interest in a transaction that is being contemplated by the Board, or now has a relationship with any person who may be involved in such a transaction, must fully disclose to the board the existence of the interest or relationship. Individuals with potential conflicts of interest may not participate in the discussion nor the vote on the transaction. All proceedings related to conflicts of interest are noted in the meeting minutes. AUTHORIZER The Academy is required to have an Authorizer to monitor its operations in order to maintain its charter. The Academy's approved Authorizer during the fiscal year 2014 was the Friends of Education. Academy Merger During the fiscal year 2014, the Academy submitted an application to merge with Beacon Prepatory School starting July 1, 2014. The application was approved by the MDE for the merger to take place between Seven Hills Classical Academy and Beacon Preparatory School on July 1, 2014.
