In 2014, Houston Volunteer Lawyers provided in-person, one-on-one legal advice to over 5,800 applicants at no charge. Nearly 900 of their matters were referred to pro bono lawyers for long-term representation which represents a waiting list placement rate of 99 percent. Over 2,200 of the persons helped in 2014 were United States veterans or spouses of deceased veterans. In addition, Houston Volunteer Lawyers assisted over 5,500 pro se litigants at the Harris County District Courthouse in 2014. In 2014, 1,648 volunteer attorneys logged over 16,300 hours on pro bono cases through Houston Volunteer Lawyers, and another 3,444 hours on legal advice clinics. 235 of those attorneys had never volunteered with Houston Volunteer Lawyers before.
