We perform up to 5,000 surgeries per year with our one surgery suite operating an average of 250 days. In addition, Napa Humane is an important link in keeping a healthy population of pets and people by holding an affordable weekly vaccination/microchipping clinic. We are in classrooms each week of the school year with programs such as Responsible Pet Care and Safe with Cats and Dogs. We also created a live puppet performance, The Right Pet for Princess Penny, presented in assembly format of 200-400 children per show and provide a curriculum-based activity book to each child to reinforce the humane lessons presented reaching up to 4,000 students a year. We sponsor annual subscriptions to KIND News (Kids in Natures Defense) to over 100 classrooms reaching 3,000 students and we offer community classes: Introducing Your Pet to your New Baby, Kitten 101, Bunny Basics, and Pet First Aid. 51262 Shelter Support Services: We use our Mobile Adoption Unit to take animals from the Napa County Animal Shelter out into the community and we help to re-home Shelter pets by leading a cadre of volunteer photographers to take appealing pictures of the animals that show their personalities outside of their caged environment; posting the photos on websites such as Petfinder.com to create the most exposure possible for a pet in need of a home. Napa Humane uses our resources to assist our municipal shelter in ways that enhance the animals time at the shelter and to shorten their length of stay. Form 990, Part III, Line 4d: Other Program Services Description OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Companion Connection: Each year we field hundreds of calls from pet owners with questions about their pets, from hopeful soon-to-be adopters with concerns about how to welcome a new pet into their family to pet owners experiencing a troubling behavior that might cause them to surrender, abandon, or turn out their companion animal. We help with our non-emergency behavior help-line to counsel and educate with the goal of creating and supporting humane homes for pets. Our goals are clear: helping people know the right time for a pet, know the right pet for their family, that a pet is ones pet for all of its life, and that every pet deserves a safe, respectful, and enriching environment. Form 990, Part VI, Line 11b: Form 990 Review Process The Board of Directors conducts a review of the organization's Form 990 (including all related Schedules) that has been prepared by an outside public accounting firm. Once the Board has completed its initial review of the Form 990, any questions, comments, and suggested revisions identified by the Board are discussed with the preparer. The preparer of the Form 990 makes any revisions to the Form 990 and it is again reviewed by the Board. The Board is then asked to grant approval for filing the Form 990. After such approval is obtained, each board member is provided with a final copy. The form is then filed with the internal revenue service. Form 990, Part VI, Line 12c: Explanation of Monitoring and Enforcement of Conflicts Officers and board members are required to annually document in writing any interests, relationships or holdings that could potentially result in a conflict of interest. If a conflict of interest is identified from an annual disclosure, the organization's executive committee will review the conflict and takes appropriate action, which may include prohibiting an individual from participating in the board's deliberations and decisions regarding a certain transaction. If a conflict is identified during a meeting, the entire Board will decide what appropriate action to take.
