This is made possible by our collaborative of 45 local churches that work alongside student leaders each week. 2000 Motivational School Assemblies:This year we hosted 12 motivational school assemblies for 5,000 students at 10 urban campuses. These interactive, multi-media experiences challenge young people to overcome obstacles standing in the way of their dreams. Both secular and Christian administrators love the message of student empowerment and the call to pursue excellence. 1089 School Beautification Day:In August of 2013, UYC hosted our annual School Beatification Day throughout San Diego County. Altogether, 1800 volunteers worked on 40 school campuses from San Ysidro, to Inner-City San Diego, to Santee, and up to Oceanside. Depending on a church's capacity and the school's needs, projects ranged from painting, weed removal, and trash pick-up to heavy equipment and construction. Members of the US Navy and the Marines also joined us at certain campuses. 1591 FCA Camp:In July of 2013, we took 106 inner-city students to UCLA for a sports camp put on by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Thanks to a generous partnership with FCA, each student received a $500 scholarship to eat in the cafeteria, sleep in the dorms, practice on the courts/fields, and experience life at a Division 1 university. In the evening, campers attend a dynamic team chapel service with powerful worship and biblical teaching. Many students make commitments to Christ or rededicate their lives. A week at UCLA also plants the seed of going to college into the minds of students that may not think of themselves as college-bound otherwise. FCA provides over $50,000 in scholarships to make this camp possible for our kids. While these funds do not come through our books, they go directly to camp scholarships that benefit our kids. 9434 Project 25: Students from 50 middle and high school clubs performed 16,500 hours of volunteer service to the San Diego Community. We challenged them to read the parable of the talents in Matthew 25. They prayerfully identified a need in their school, city, or world that they wanted to meet in the name of Jesus. Then, they made a short video giving an account of how they put the funds to work on behalf of others. We hosted all clubs at The Rock Church for a red carpet awards celebration. Judges awarded trophies to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place projects that made the most incredible impact with their resources.
