We meet the vital, growing and changing needs of our community's most vulnerable children by collecting and purchasing essential items for infants (see Sched O) and children, ages birth to 12, and distributing them, free of charge, via a network of local family-assistance service providers. 0 0 3900237 3826213 Since 1990, EBC has helped ameliorate the damaging effects of adverse childhood experiences by supplying nourishment, protecting growing bodies and brains, keeping babies healthy and safe and encouraging learning. EBC provides essential health, safety, nutritional and comfort items for all babies and children in need, birth to age 12, who are living within our area of operations and are currently being served by a social service agency in our network. These life basics enable struggling and stressed parents to better care for their kids. Effectiveness of EBC is measured primarily through the number and type of items distributed, and the percent of orders filled (see Sched O). We have a 90-96% fufillment rate of orders received, and each year have at least a 10% increase in output, which equates to more families and children having access to essential items. Currently 50 agencies, including school districts, hospitals and human service agencies are in EBC's collaborative provider network. Access to Eastside Baby Corner support is available only through these qualified partner agencies who are eligible to order 20-80 items each week, 50 weeks a year. (An item could be an entire bag of clothing, a package of diapers or a new car seat). Approximately 120 case managers from these organizations assess the needs of the children, request the items through our online ordering system, and pick up and deliver directly to the families. It is a central tenet of our mission to give away all donated and purchased items free of charge.EBC attempts to fill the agency requests by matching age, gender, and personal preferences from a warehouse of donation and purchased items. As an eco-sensitive organization, we recycle community donations of clothing, cribs, strollers, high chairs, beds, bicycles, bedding and more; we wisely purchase high-demand and high-need items, such as diapers, port-a-cribs, car seats and baby formula. Donations are checked for safety and recalls, and operation manuals are reprinted as needed to accompany distributed goods.EBC is guided by a committed, strategic-thinking Board of Directors; led by a small, efficient staff and a core group of longstanding, experienced volunteers. An average of more than 1800 volunteer hours are contributed each month at all levels of the organization by 55 core volunteers plus an additional 100 volunteers each week. In 2012, EBC added three programs and four agencies to the provider partner network; weekly ordering limits were raised for an additional thirteen provider partners. Working together, an estimated 500 at-risk children in greater East King County are served each week.In 2012, EBC filled more than 700 orders each week, on average. For the year, these orders included 1,147 car seats, 207,592 diaper changes for individual children, 647 layettes for newborns, and nearly 400 port-a-cribs. Eleven area food banks received enough diapers for 192,245 diaper changes. The need for basics for kids continues to grow in our community: in 2012, EBC gave out almost 3,000 cans of formula and provided 10,402 baby food meals to individual children and through local food banks, and distributed 7,219 bags of clothing to infants, children, and expectant mothers. goods for children, not cash, to local schools, hospitals and social service agencies that assess the situation of a family and their needs. Social workers order goods through an online system; each order is customized to the age of the individual child, their development level, gender, culture and family circumstances. Within a week of ordering goods, agency personnel pick up the labeled items from EBC and deliver them directly to the family. Distribution and order fulfillment percentages are augmented with feedback from providers and clients who assess our services, specifically the type of essentials, amount, changes in need, and effectiveness of delivery. Through our online ordering system, we use established baselines to track increases or decreases in both the types and the amounts of items distributed; the number of received orders filled or not filled; and distribution of goods across agencies and geographic areas. We also record the number of providers and reporting agencies as well as the frequency and types of orders submitted. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c EBC annually requires officers, directors and key employees to disclose any interest that could give rise to conflict and these disclosures are reviewed annually. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 EBC Board of Directors, a Committee composed of independent board members, approves compensation for EBC's most senior executives. The Committee relies on data from an independent compensation consulting firm, to ensure that compensation is market competitive and reasonable.
