The organization's primary exempt purpose is to: (1) promote alliances between South Asian legal professionals in Northern California and throughout the nation, (2) advocate for the South Asian community, (3) support those who value diversity in the legal profession, (4) assist law students, and those interested in the law, with developing contacts with practitioners, (5) provide information to members on careers and the legal market in Northern California, and (6) provide an avenue for professionals and other community leaders to take an interest in matters of concern to South Asian attorneys.
(1) We regularly and frequently host and sponsor continuing education programming for our membership. (2) We organize a series of events focused on providing pro bono legal services to the South Asian community. For example, in 2012 we expanded our recurring legal clinic from one to three locations in an effort to make legal services more accessible to members of the South Asian and broader community in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2012, we were presented with the Unsung Hero Award by the Santa Clara County Bar Association for our probono clinics. Further, we continue to offer "know your rights" seminars geared to potential legal issues faced by the South Asian community. In 2012, we received a grant from the California State Bar to produce one such seminar.
