Its 900-seat Historic Theater, built in 1878, is the oldest in New Hampshire. Its second venue, built in 2011 and renovated in 2022, is The Lounge, a modern 116-seat cabaret seated venue. In addition to presenting diverse and relevant programming, TMH hosts community fundraisers and celebrations and partners with more than 60 local nonprofits. Overview of Activities: The 2024-25 Season was a successful year as The Music Hall continued its tradition of offering a diverse range of high-quality performances, educational programs, and cultural events. TMH continues to work toward the goals outlined in our three-year Strategic Plan, making significant progress in enhancing what we are able to offer patrons and ensuring our long-term sustainability. Some highlights from this past year include: A Record-Setting Year of Engagement: We welcomed over 125,000 attendees across our venues and launched major new programming at the Whittemore Center Arena, reaching a broader and younger audience than ever before. Over 3,000 people attended the Whittemore show, and 564 of these patrons were first-time Music Hall ticket buyers. With the addition of more than 1,900 new members, TMH also reached new heights in our Membership program, surpassing 5,000 households in FY25. Blockbuster Performances and Community Impact: More than 20,000 patrons attended The Music Hall's presentation of the Ogunquit Playhouse production of Disney's Frozen the Musical , making it the highest-grossing show in The Music Hall's history. TMH's Emerging Artist Benefit Concert (EABC) series also provided blockbuster moments; in accommodating artist schedules, TMH hosted two EABC events in FY25, welcoming Jason Mraz in July 2024 and Sara Bareilles in May 2025. This doubled the impact of this fundraiser that helps underwrite our ability to bring early career artists to Music Hall stages. Through the newly created Emerging Artist Grant Program associated with the fundraiser, TMH awarded cash prizes to ten musicians to help catapult their performance career to the next level. During the course of the year TMH was proud to host the album launch parties for two of those artists, albums funded in part by the EABC grant awards. Growing Community Outreach: From launching the new Winter Carnival series to growing a strong network of more than 60 community partners, our commitment to collaboration continues to expand the ways in which The Music Hall engages and uplifts the Seacoast. TMH was thrilled to introduce more than 6,000 elementary school students to the joys of live theater through our School Days Series of professional matinees for young people. Strategic Vision for NHFF: The board, management, and staff took an active role in shaping the new strategic direction for the New Hampshire Film Festival, developing a three-year Strategic Plan. October 2024 marked The Music Hall's first time fully incorporating NHFF into the calendar. As a result of efforts inspired by the Strategic Plan, Festival attendance grew by 30%. Patrons included 241 artists and film industry professionals as well as 16 aspiring filmmakers who attended the annual Young Filmmakers Workshop. The festival welcomed many first-time attendees, as well as sponsors, from within New Hampshire and beyond. Members Club: This year marked the first full year of programming at our newest venue the Members Club. Since opening, it has generated more than 540 new members and hosted dozens of gatherings, educational programs, and social events. It has quickly become a warm, inviting space for the community to connect more deeply with the arts and with one another. Live-streamed performances, including Frozen , allowed families and guests to experience the magic of The Music Hall in a quieter, more relaxed setting offering an inclusive and comfortable option for all. Kearsarge House: TMH is proud to now be stewards of two historic buildings in the heart of downtown Portsmouth. Earlier this year, The Music Hall purchased the historic Kearsarge House, securing full ownership of the building that houses our beloved Members Club. This strategic acquisition is not only a cultural investment but a financially sound one, strengthening our position for the long term. Treasure the Legacy Campaign: The purchase of the Kearsarge House inspired TMH to increase the goal for our Treasure the Legacy capital campaign to $18 million. A campaign to ensure the long-term sustainable future of The Music Hall, Treasure the Legacy will allow us to adapt to best serve current and future audiences and preserve the presence and architecture of our Historic Theater and the Kearsarge House. Looking ahead to FY26, there is even more to be excited about: expanded programming in Portsmouth (and Durham with our partner, UNH), continued momentum for NHFF, and deeper investments in building the next generation of arts supporters through year-round engagement and inclusive community experiences.
