Our Early Head Start/Head Start program provides comprehensive child development in a full-day, full-year format that supports working parents. Early Head Start/Head Start programs served 3,766 pre-school age children and their 5,660 parents in 2011. The Early Childhood Development Centers served 219 children in 2011. Our Charter School offers a well-balanced, child-centered education experience for children in kindergarten through the eighth grade - 682 children and 1,193 parents were served in 2011. 11066396 254274 588944 Community Based Initiatives Services - Community centers provide educational, recreational and other support activities that assist families in developing the basic life skills needed to achieve self-sufficiency. They also serve as central gathering places for community events such as health fairs, cultural celebrations, and access to social services provided by partners such as health care providers and parenting support services. In 2011 65,107 individuals received services from a community center. In addition to the community centers, Neighborhood Centers Inc. provides a variety of services for seniors at our 23 Senior Centers. Weekday center activities include a hot lunchtime meal; seminars on topics such as health and wellness, energy conversation, and financial literacy; socialization activities, monthly birthday dances and thrice weekly structured physical fitness classes at most locations. In 2011,3,860 seniors were served.Finally, Neighborhood Centers Inc. offers programs and services for youth designed to enhance their social, educational and personal development. Specific enrichment activities are offered to youth ages 5 - 10 and older youth ages 11 - 18, with educational assistance (mentors, homework help, etc.) is offered to all.
