No significant collection items were donated to the Center in 2010. Part III, Line 4: The Center collects and preserves select objects and records that document the causes, conduct, and legacies of the American Civil War as they relate to the three major participant groups: Union, Confederate, and African American.The Center maintains two types of collections, Permanent and Teaching. These collections support the exhibits and programs. The Permanent collections represent materials of the greatest historical significance and receive the highest standard of care. Examples include a pair of 1830s abolitionist tokens, a knife attributed to the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, a cartridge box used by Charles English of the 108th U.S. Colored Troops, and a 10th U.S. Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers drum. The teaching collections include material that may lack data, be of lesser quality or are already adequately represented in the Permanent collections, but which are useful for educational or interpretive purposes. Examples include a 19th century travel trunk, iron-making tools, and reproduction Civil War uniforms and equipment. Part V, Line 4: Description of Intended Use of Endowment Funds: The objective is to maintain and enhance the value of endowment gifts and to secure the purchasing power of distributions in the future. The endowment funds is invested and will be managed to support the Center in perpetuity. No distributions will be made until the endowment fund totals $1,000,000.
