BROADWAY ENTERTAINMENT Presenting live Broadway entertainment since 1951, the not-for-profit Starlight Theatre Association is Kansas City's oldest and largest performing arts organization. The Association operates, programs and maintains the largest stage in the United States, as well as the 16-acre Starlight Theatre complex. While assuming all annual operating costs for the complex, the Association also raises funds for capital improvements and a variety of programs, including national Broadway musical performances, concerts, community outreach and education. Since 2000, the Association has contributed more than $25 million of privately funded improvements to the Kansas City, Mo.-owned Starlight Theatre. In 2010, for the fourth consecutive year, Starlight Theatre was selected as the "Favorite Performing Arts Venue" in the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association's Visitors' Choice Awards program. Starlight also took the KCCVA's top honor for "Favorite Concert/Live Music Venue" for the first time. Starlight received awards for "Best Theater" and "Best Performing Arts Venue" in Ingram's 2010 Best of Business Kansas City Awards, as well as the award for "Best Live Theater Venue" in the KC Magazine City's Best 2010 competition. The theatre seats approximately 8,000 and is located in Swope Park. Starlight Theatre's annual summer Broadway series features national Broadway tours and local productions. The landmark outdoor theatre, one of only three of its kind remaining in the United States, draws theatre fans from throughout the metropolitan Kansas City area, as well as surrounding cities and states. In fact, nearly every summer Starlight welcomes visitors from all 50 states and several nations. The 2010 Broadway season brought five top-quality productions to the 12,000-square-foot Starlight Theatre stage - Little House on the Prairie: The Musical, Dreamgirls, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, The Producers and RAIN: A Tribute to The Beatles. Total attendance for the Broadway productions approached 150,000 in 2010. Those attending enjoyed many of the newest Starlight amenities, including group dining pavilions, expanded concessions and lushly landscaped grounds. In support of its not-for-profit mission, Starlight Theatre since 1951 has offered a Community Ticket Program that provides a professional entertainment experience to individuals who would otherwise be unable to enjoy live theatre performances due to economic, medical or other restrictive causes. The program makes available more than 11,000 free tickets to Starlight Broadway performances each season to not-for-profit organizations in the bi-state area. Special consideration is given to groups working to enhance the lives of underprivileged and at-risk youth, the medically dependent or disabled, and low-income senior citizens. During the past 60 years, the Starlight Community Ticket Program has provided tens of thousands of area citizens the opportunity to enjoy professional live theatre at no cost. During the 2010 Broadway season alone, 146 charitable organizations benefitted as a total of 10,468 tickets were requested by both new and returning not-for-profit groups. Starlight Theatre also makes available 200 free tickets each season to charitable and community organizations to use in fund-raising efforts. In addition, Starlight maintains a significant portion of its tickets at below-market prices to provide affordable access to area residents and visitors. In 2010, a total of 1,033 seats were priced at just $10 for every Broadway performance night.

Concert Entertainment In addition to offering award-winning Broadway entertainment, Starlight Theatre also is a favored performance venue for top concert artists. Starlight's climate-controlled stage, rehearsal spaces, dressing rooms and many amenities are considered state of the art in the outdoor concert industry. The Starlight venue's seating capacity for nearly 8,000 fans is another major plus in attracting touring acts. The 2010 concert series at Starlight featured 18 concert performances, covering the gamut of musical genres. The lineup included comedienne Chelsea Handler, classic rock favorites Foreigner, STYX, Chicago and the Doobie Brothers, soul artists Maxwell and Jill Scott and many more. In total, nearly 75,000 music fans enjoyed a concert at Starlight in 2010.

Education Programs The momentum for performing arts education continues to build at Starlight Theatre. The commitment to education is deeply held at Starlight as evidenced in the theatre's vision statement: Starlight Theatre is the premier entertainment treasure of the heartland, where performing arts share center stage with education. With interest growing throughout the Kansas City community, Starlight continues to expand the roster of classes it offers to youth of all ages and interests. Educational programming in 2010 included: College internships in multiple theatre production and administration roles; Rising Star scholarships for high school seniors and Vincent Legacy scholarships for minority middle-school students; The Starlight STARS intensive summer training session in musical theatre expanded to become the theatre's year-round community performance troupe; The Blue Star Awards celebrated its eighth year with 49 Kansas City-area high schools participating in this annual theatre recognition program; Act Like An Animal summer camp, held in partnership with the Kansas City Zoo, was expanded to offer two sessions for youth ages 5 to 10; Musical theatre education classes were offered in multiple area locations in both spring and fall semesters; Starlight on Site's in-school theatre education curriculum continued with the KCMO School District.

<Explanation>The Association applies the provision of Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) Topic 740, Income Taxes, (ASC 740) with respect to uncertain tax positions. ASC 740 requires that all tax positions be evaluated using a recognition threshold and measurement of a tax position taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. Differences between positions taken in a tax return and amounts recognized in the financial statements are recorded as adjustments to income taxes payable or receivable, or adjustments to deferred income taxes, or both. ASC 740 also requires expanded disclosures at the end of each annual reporting period. No amounts have been recorded at September 30, 2010 or 2009 with respect to uncertain tax positions.</Explanation>
