These projects included designs for an orphanage in Ghana, an eye clinic in Guatemala, a school in India, and responses to major disasters in Haiti and Pakistan. More than 250 design professionals and over 50 interns donated their time and expertise to partner with EMI in providing designs for these projects.In January 2010, EMI began a series of mobilizations of structural and civil engineers to respond to the earthquake in Haiti. The staff and volunteers evaluated hundreds of structures, taught Haitians the basics of home structural evaluation, designed temporary living camps, evaluated and installed water filtration systems, and designed and helped manage construction of transitional shelters. In addition, EMI mobilized 5 typical design teams to work with local ministries who are rebuilding schools, clinics, orphanages, and planning new communities for those whose homes were destroyed. 30826 267 In June 2010, EMI mobilized 8 architects and engineers to design a vocational training in Kigali, Rwanda for an organization called Esther's Aid for Needy and Abandoned Children. Claire Effiong founded Esther's Aid in response to the need of the street children in Kigali. Focusing mostly on girls, Ms. Effiong has rescued many from the prostitution on the street, given them skills through her existing vocational school, and seen that they get jobs upon graduating. The EMI team designed a new campus that will replace their existing campus. The school will teach catering, sewing, and jewelry making and have housing for the female students on campus. Esther's Aid also focuses on teaching business skills like English language, goal setting, and job etiquette. 30826 267 With a team of 11 architects, engineers and interns, EMI joined with the Christian and Missionary Alliance in September of 2010 to help the people in Gabon. Bongolo Hospital was established by Dr. David Thompson in the late 1970s. Since then it has become a center of physical and spiritual healing. The hospital currently has 230 beds and specializes as a surgical center with many people traveling from all over Gabon and other nearby countries to seek medical treatment. Bongolo Hospital has also helped establish the Gabonese CMA church with the church being turned over entirely to the Gabonese in the early 2000s. When Jim Hall became the newest CEO, the process did not change and he assumed the previous compensation. Currently, officers' salaries are reviewed by the CEO. The independent board of directors reviews the compensation of all employees by comparing the current salary structures of both the ministry world and design field world; from there EMI scales back the salary levels using 4 criteria: 1. years of experience, 2. education, 3. responsibility and 4. job description.
