It inspires connections between art and people through distinctive exhibitions, programs, and publications, and through an outstanding collection that emphasizes American art and contemporary art within holdings that span cultures and time periods. Schedule D, Part V, Line 4 Intended uses of endowment funds The College's endowment consists of approximately 1,500 individual funds established for a variety of purposes, including gifts that are subject to donor or legal restrictions as well as other gifts and College funds, which are invested to provide support for College activities in accordance with Trustee direction. The College has adopted investment and spending policies for endowment assets that attempt to provide a predictable stream of funding to programs supported by its endowment while seeking to maintain the purchasing power of endowment assets. The maximum amount of endowment income utilization is determined by a spending formula approved by the Trustees. The amount available for use for 2024-25 was set at 5.50% of the market base defined as the average of the market values of the participating funds for the five preceding years, adjusted to reflect gifts and other additions received in subsequent years. Endowment income provides approximately 27% of the College's annual operating budget revenues. Approximately 78% of the permanently restricted net assets consist of those for which income is restricted to financial aid, instruction, academic support, student services, and research.
