| Desc | Technical Events - In 2021 SPIE's technical events were drastically affected by the pandemic. 2 meetings were held in-person at different locations in the US, 1 meeting was held in Europe and the remaining were held as digital forums. SPIE organized technical/scientific and engineering meetings with approximately 14,000 attendees. Included in the content of these Technical Events are basic research, research technology methods and applications. Many of our technical events also include Exhibits and a Career Center. There were 296 conferences held at the events in 2021 where scientists presented their research findings and collaborated on their work. SPIE is also the publisher of 14 technical journals: Optical Engineering, Journal of Biomedical Optics, Journal of Micro/Nano Lithography, MEMS and MOEMS, Journal of Nanophotonics, Journal of Applied Remote Sensing, Journal of Photonics for Energy, Journal of Astronomy Telescopes, Journal of Medical Imaging, Journal of Neurophotonics, Journal of Advanced Photonics and Journal of Optical Microsystems, Journal of Advanced Photonics Nexus and Journal of photonics Insights. SPIE is also a Co-publisher of Journal of Electronic Imaging with Society for Imaging Science and Technology. SPIE awarded 85 scholarships and 42 grants to support education outreach, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and International Day of Light events and activities. More than 950 outreach posters were distributed, and over 1,380 Women in Optics Planners were printed and distributed. Six online Career Advancement Series events were held with over 170 attendees, and three in-person career workshops were held at Optics + Photonics.
