They gain extensive practical experience, from providing care to a simulated patient in the first year; to providing direct patient care in patient centered general practice teams in our Oral Health Center in the second and third years; to extending their clinical experience into the community during their fourth year, while working and living in communities throughout Northern New England and beyond. The College is housed on the Portland campus, an historic site in suburban Portland, Maine. COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE: The College of Osteopathic Medicine is dedicated to the improvement of life through the education of Osteopathic physicians, research and service. The nationally recognized College emphasizes health, healing and primary care for the people of New England and the nation. The College is the only osteopathic medical school in New England. In addition to the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, the College offers internships and residencies. The College is housed on the Biddeford campus on the coast of Maine. DescAuxiliary services for the delivery of higher education include room and board for over 1,500 students. The mission is to work in partnership with resident students to create a healthy and positive residential community that enhances academic pursuits and provides opportunities for personal, social and spiritual growth. The goal is to promote an atmosphere rooted in civility and personal responsibility, and encourage reflective thinking and active involvement. The staff strives to teach, model, and learn with the students the values of community, inquiry, integrity, and caring. Maintaining a close relationship with Student Activities creates a positive impact on campus life for the entire University. Students are encouraged to actively engage in many arenas to become more deeply involved in the University, and thereby in their own education. These experiences outside the classroom can truly enhance those experiences students have within the classroom. Additional facts: University of New England Dining Services: Using input from students through comment boards, personal contacts between students and Food Service Managers, and regular meetings with campus Dining Advisory Committees, the University's dining services is able to stay in step with the students' needs and desires. All new UNE students are encouraged to take advantage of any of the above methods of connecting in order to maintain an innovative and creative dining that meets students' diverse dietary needs. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES: University of New England offers a number of online services for our students, faculty, and staff: U-Online - U-Online provides students, faculty, and staff with secure, web-based access to select administrative, academic, and employee records. U-Online is the only on-line official web-based source of information from the University of New England. Blackboard - The BrightSpace Learning Management System is an online course management system with teaching and learning tools for course preparation, delivery, assessment, and management. The University of New England has implemented an intranet using Microsoft SharePoint that administrative units, colleges, and programs utilize to provide secure information and communications to authorized member of the UNE Community. UNE also utilizes additional MS365 services to provide email, calendaring and scheduling, and university information to students, faculty, and professional staff. The University of New England transitioned from an older password synchronization technology to a newer and better solution, Okta. The new Okta technology affords the university with a more robust, secure, and integrated solution for our entire UNE Community and simplifies the way that we securely gain access to our everyday systems (MS365, Banner, Blackboard, U-Online, etc.) by allowing users to gain quick access to our systems through a secure single web page. During this timeframe, the University of New England standardized our synchronous communication platform to the Zoom video conferencing services. This allowed the university to make further investments utilizing Zoom to support traditional, online, and hybrid teaching. Since this standardization, the UNE Community has logged millions of minutes of participation with Zoom.Desc
