DescWhite Memorial Medical Center (AHWM) provides quality medical health care regardless of race, creed, sex, national origin, handicap, age, or ability to pay.Although reimbursement for services rendered is critical to the operation and stability White Memorial Medical Center, the organization recognizes that not all individuals possess the ability to pay for essential medical services.Adventist Health's vision is to enhance the health of the communities where we live and serve by engaging our communities and our patients in a new definition of and partnership for personal community health. In keeping with this commitment to serve all members of the community, the following will be considered when individuals who need health care cannot pay:providing free care and/or subsidized careproviding care to persons covered by governmental programs at below costproviding health/wellness activities and community education programsNot only does White Memorial Medical Center provide low cost care to individuals covered by government-programs and those unable to afford healthcare, it also helps patients find and access private and governmental resources for healthcare benefits.AHWM recognizes below-cost reimbursement as charity and uncompensated care in meeting its mission to the entire community. The unreimbursed cost of providing care to these patients in 2020 was $1,928875The following Inpatient services that were provided to all our patients. These services included:3,181 Babies delivered2,820 Surgeries performed81,513 Patient days The following Outpatient services that were provided to all our patients. These services included:48,176 Emergency department visits3,939 Outpatient Surgeries performed58,200 Outpatient visits 21,718 Clinic visitsAHWM recognizes it has an obligation to provide human services above and beyond its role as a healing facility. The following community benefits demonstrate the tangible ways in which the organization is fulfilling its mission. The total unreimbursed cost of these community benefits in 2020 was $24,813,035.Adventist Health's mission statement of Living God's love by inspiring health, wholeness and hope is coupled with a vision to transform the health experience of our communities through collaborative programs, community investments and community outreach. We are inspired by the healing ministry as represented by the life of Jesus Christ and believe we are called to live out our mission intentionally in the communities we serve. In the small towns, suburbs and inner cities we serve, we continue our journey to provide quality healthcare until every person made in God's image has experienced the best health today, hope for tomorrow, and God's love that endures forever. Our hospitals impact on our community is best illustrated by excerpts from the following story written by Juan Castro, one of the students participating in our Healthcare Workforce Development program who was recently accepted into an X-Ray Technician program at East Los Angeles Occupational Center Radiology Program. Juan graduated from Pasadena City College with an Associate Degree in Arts and Natural Science with a 3.8 GPA and Administration honors:I am currently volunteering at Adventist Health White Memorial. I started off volunteering at the Same Day Surgery department. My experience volunteering here has been awesome. One of the main reasons I really enjoy working at AHWM is because of its core values, which are aligned with my personal values. Even though I am not a Seventh-day Adventist, I am a follower of the Christian faith, being raised Catholic by my parents. And whether someone is of a different religion, I do not discriminate because we are all equal. It is these same values: integrity, compassion, respect and excellence that I uphold in daily life. This is why volunteering here at AHWM has been a pleasure.Living life with these values is what motivates me to helping and serving others. That is what I feel this life is about: to help and serve others. Volunteering may not be a big help, or helping save lives directly, but it feels good to be part of the big picture in helping saving lives, no matter how small a task is, or even if my work is not recognized. My passion is to help others in any way I can. This is why I chose to study Radiology. I feel this career is best suited for me, because it helps save lives. It really is amazing how much progress has been made in the medical world. We can record images of the human body to pinpoint where a broken bone is located to treat that affected area specifically. We can see how organs function. We can stop the spread of cancer by early detection with X-ray imaging. It is a perfect doorway into the medical field for me. It is also a perfect doorway for me to get out poverty. I am a 1st generation Mexican-American. Both of my parents came to the U.S from Mexico. They came with virtually nothing but still have provided stability for my family. We are not rich, we live in a housing projects for low income families. Living in the projects is not the ideal place to live. There is a lot of crime and drugs here. This neighborhood is actually referred to as a "Food Desert" because there is no place to buy healthy food here. There is only one liquor store here to buy food. Residents have to travel a few miles to get healthy, non-processed food because there are no markets around us.I am grateful for all that my parents have done for me. It is because of them that I am motivated in starting a career in the medical field. They have always supported me. There is no excuse to not succeed. Thanks to them, I am the 1st and only person in my family that has graduated from college. I am eager to continue advancing in my educational life, eventually becoming a Radiologist. I love helping people, and I really want to help those that have always been there for me as well. I want to give my parents the best, just like they gave me the best to succeed.Websites for our community benefit information: https://www.adventisthealth.org/about-us/community-benefit/Desc

Facility: - Part V, Section B, Line 5The 2019 CHNA data collection process can be summarized as follows: 1. review of prior CHNA reporting efforts; 2. collection of most recently available demographic, socioeconomic and health indicator data; 3. Data gathering from community members. From February 4, 2019 to May 7, 2019, focus groups, key informant interviews and surveys were administered within AHWMs PSA. Approximately 156 people were surveyed to obtain input from the community in the form of 8 focus groups (with a total of 76 focus group participants), 16 key informant interviews and 64 people responded to the online survey (51 in English and 13 Spanish). Community Survey: Survey participants lived in areas similar to that of focus group participants and key informants. Ninety percent of the survey respondents lived in Los Angeles County most living in 90033 (Arroyo Seco) and 90023 (Boyle Heights) zip codes.Community Focus Group: Focus group participants were end-users of programs and services provided by AHWM. Populations represented by focus group members included seniors, low-income, homeless, parents, and college students in the medical field and other sectors. The majority of focus group participants live in Boyle Heights. Several of the respondents mentioned living in shelters in the Boyle Heights area.Key Informant Interview: Key informant interviews consisted of key leaders in our community from an array of agencies, including those that connect financial and social resources to area populations, educational, and health care services. Additionally, key informant interviews were conducted with representatives from the non-profit, educational, homeless, law enforcement, and faith-based sectors. The majority of the people interviewed serve residents in Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles, and throughout Los Angeles County. Most key informants hold titles such as Director or Executive Director, President or Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, and Monsignor.Secondary sources include publicly available state and nationally recognized data sources available at the zip code, county and state level. Health indicators for social and economic factors, health system, public health and prevention, and physical environment are incorporated. A significant portion of the data for this assessment was collected through reports generated through CARES Engagement Network CHNA (https://engagementnetwork.org/assessment/).Other sources include Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, California Department of Public Health, County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, and California Environmental Protection Agencys Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment. When feasible, health metrics have been further compared to estimates for the state or national benchmarks, such as the Healthy People 2020 objectives. Adventist Health White Memorial identified relevant key informants and topical focus groups to gather more insightful data and aid in describing the community. Key informants and focus groups were purposefully chosen to represent medically under-served, low-income, or minority populations in our community, to better direct our investments and form partnerships.
Facility: - Part V, Section B, Line 11The COVID-19 global pandemic has caused extraordinary challenges for Adventist Health hospitals and health care systems across the world including keeping front line workers safe, shortages of protective equipment, limited ICU bed space and developing testing protocols. They have also focused on helping patients and families deal with the isolation needed to stop the spread of the virus, and more recently vaccine roll out efforts. Adventist Health, like other health care systems, had to pivot its focus to meet the most urgent healthcare needs of its community during the pandemic, as well as reassess the ability to continue with some community health strategies due to public health guidelines for social distancing. Adjustments have been made to continue community health improvement efforts as possible, while ensuring the health and safety of those participating. Our 2019 CHNA identified three areas of significant need: Chronic Disease, Mental Health, and Access to Health Care and Resources. Priority Need 1- Chronic Disease- The goal is to improve health outcomes in patients and community members with chronic disease. Strategy 1- Mobilize patients and community members through education and tools to manage chronic disease. Activity 1.1- Diabetes Center- The Diabetes Center offers up-to-date educational programs for patients in the Los Angeles community living with diabetes. To education families and expectant mothers on proper nutrition who are overweight to prevent to lessen the effects of weight-related health issues. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Diabetes Programs had to put a greater effort in the continued education of Gestational Diabetes patients. A program was developed to easily educate pregnant women in a virtual setting in order to avoid complications at birth or the delivery of large babies for gestational age. Total number of persons served: 133. Activity 1.2- Vive Bien! Senior- The AHWM senior well program provides wellness classes, health screenings, exercise and strengthening classes, computer education, caregiver support, and special assistance for seniors within the community. It also provides local older Hispanic adults with access to resources. There was a decrease in participation due to the transition from in-person programming to virtual health education programming. Number of participants in health education classes: 286. Number of participants in the fitness classes: 732.Number of referrals to resources: 3- mental health referrals and 55- food distribution referrals. Priority Need 2- Mental Health- The goal is appropriate mental and behavioral health services. Strategy 1- Assess and refer vulnerable populations to appropriate mental and behavioral health services. Activity 1.1- Welcome Baby Program (Community Program)- The Welcome Baby Program is an outreach program provided for expectant mothers in our community to educate, support, provide home wellness visits, and connections to resources in the community. Total number of mental health assessments in pregnant women: 265. Total number of postpartum depression and other mental health education/support: 2,612. Total of number of referrals to mental health resources: 216. Activity 1.2- Community Information Center Virtual Referral and resource site. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Community Information Center closed its doors early 2020 and caused an impact on referrals. The total number of mental health services referrals: 14. Priority Need 3- Access to Health Care and Resources- The goal is to provide a hub of health care resources and referrals to services to improve access. Strategy 1- Engage local stakeholders to refer to the Community Information Center through the implementation of a referral application in addition to normal duties and responsibilities of the center. Activity 1.1- Community Information Center- The Community Information Center provides enrollment assistance and support for individuals on understanding and using health care coverage. It includes counseling sessions on health care coverage options that include Medicare, Covered California, and Medi-Cal. The Community Information Center was open for the public for the first quarter of the year and had to close due to the COVID pandemic. To protect the safety of our patients, clients and staff, we proceeded to provide services and resources over the phone. Because of this unforeseen transition, the numbers are lower than in previous years. The total number of on-site enrollment assistance to healthcare plan: 41. Total number of services and resources referred via referral pad: 136. Total number of services and resources referred & coordinated: 1484. Total number of enrollments in wellness programming through referral pad: 6.

Form And Line ReferenceFormAndLineReferenceDescExplanationExplanationTxt
Part I, Line 7 - Explanation of Costing MethodologyThe hospital is located in a medically underserved area and participates in a quality assurance fee program with the State of California to fund certain Medi-Cal coverage expansions. The state redistributes funds to hospitals that provide patient care to a higher proportion of indigent and medically underprivileged patients, who otherwise would most likely not have access to physicians and other medical services. The community benefit analysis includes receipts from this redistribution that are used to assist in partially offsetting the significant costs associated with providing patient care to this population group. The program may or may not continue in the future based on the State of Californias regulations and policies and the approval of the federal government.
Part III, Line 2 - Methodology Used To Estimate Bad Debt ExpenseUncollected patient accounts are analyzed using written patient financial services policies that apply standard procedures for all patient accounts. The result of the analysis is what is recognized as bad debt expense. For example, all self-pay patients receive a discount. If the discounted account is unpaid after collection efforts, the unpaid balance is classified as bad debt. The cost-to-charge ratio is multiplied times the hospital's bad debt expense. The resulting figure has been reported as bad debts at cost on Part III, Line 2.
Part III, Line 3 - Methodology of Estimated Amount & Rationale for Including in Community BenefitThe portion of the bad debts attributed to charity care as reported on Part III, Line 3 was calculated by an independent third-party consulting firm. This is an estimate of additional charity care that would have been granted if patients had cooperated by furnishing family financial information. A statistically valid sampling of patient accounts written-off was evaluated. The evaluation used various factors to determine which patients would have been eligible for charity care. Had the hospital obtained sufficient information from all patients who qualified for financial assistance, these additional accounts would have been recorded as charity care instead of bad debt.
Part III, Line 4 - Bad Debt ExpenseThe system-wide combined audited financial statements do not contain a footnote describing bad debt expense.
Part III, Line 8 - Explanation Of Shortfall As Community BenefitThe Medicare cost report apportions the hospital's costs on the basis of inpatient days and ancillary and outpatient charges to establish the costing methodology.Healthcare delivery by hospitals is a complex, highly regulated business in the United States. Healthcare unit cost inflation is driven by compliance with ever-expanding regulatory requirements, shortages of highly skilled labor and evolving medical and information technology. The health care market basket is unrelated to that of the average individual consumer. Since the 1997 Balanced Budget Act, Medicare annual payment updates have fallen behind actual healthcare cost inflation to the point that Medicare payments to many U.S. hospitals are well below the cost of providing care. These unreimbursed costs are a community benefit for seniors and others in the community as these individuals are continuing to receive care without which many would become dependent on other governmental resources such as Medicaid. The benefit to the community for healthier Medicare recipients is no different than those benefits the community realizes for uninsured and underinsured patients who are eligible for partial and full charity care. Medicare is a safety net for seniors and others. Without Medicare coverage, many individuals would undoubtedly qualify for charity care.In addition to the mismatch between Medicare payment increases and healthcare cost inflation, the highly complex Medicare payment systems and formulas produce disparate payment levels from one hospital to another for the same service. These disparate payment levels create disparate results within groups of hospitals.Reconciliation of Medicare Revenue from the hospital's Medicare Cost Report to GL: Revenue Rec. *Medicare Cost Report Revenue $48,696,725 Prior Year Settlements -0- Cost Report Reimbursable Bad Debts 1,155,482 Non-Cost Report Revenue 6,748,463 Estimates and Accrual Variances (1,211,372) Other 874,577 ___________ Total Medicare Revenue $56,263,875*Note: The Medicare Cost Report revenue does not include the bad debt reimbursement. The Cost Report revenue does include the patient co-pay and deductible amounts. Adding the bad debt reimbursement would have duplicated the revenue already accounted for in the co-pay and deductible amounts.
Part III, Line 9b - Provisions On Collection Practices For Qualified PatientsWhen a patient has requested screening for charity care, the hospital must immediately cease collection activity and place the account in a charity pending status. If 100% charity is approved, the entire account balance is written off to charity care. If the patient has a sliding scale liability based on the federal poverty guidelines, they are billed only for that liability. If the patient fails to pay their after-charity liability, they are assigned to a collection agency with an identifier that indicates to the agency that the patient is "low incomeX and the following criteria must be followed by the agency:1. They may not report the patient to a credit bureau2. They may not file a lawsuit to recover the outstanding liability3. They may not charge interest
Part VI, Line 2 - Needs AssessmentThe hospital's 2019 CHNA, the 2021 Community Health Plan (CHP) Update for fiscal year 2020, and the 2020 Implementation Strategy adopted in 2020 are posted on the hospital's website at Community Benefit | Roseville, California | Adventist Health. The two most recent Community Health Needs Assessment, two most recent Implementation Strategy reports and the most recent Community Health Plan Updates are also available on the Adventist Health Corporate website at Community Benefit | Roseville, California | Adventist Health. The Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) includes both the activity and product of identifying and prioritizing a community's health needs, accomplished through the collection and development of a community health plan. The second component of the CHNA, the community health plan, includes strategies and plans to address prioritized needs, with the goal of contributing to improvements in the community's health. Qualitative and quantitative data sources were used in conducting the CHNA. To accomplish the many important systemic goals that are underway in our community, Adventist Health White Memorial supports local partners to augment our own efforts, and to promote a healthier community. Partnership is not used as a legal term, but a description of the relationships of connectivity that are necessary to collectively improve the health of our region. One of our objectives is to partner with other nonprofit and faith-based organizations that share our values and priorities to improve the health status and quality of life of the community we serve. This is an intentional effort to avoid duplication and leverage the successful work already in existence in the community.
Part VI, Line 3 - Patient Education of Eligibility for AssistanceThe plain language summary of the Financial Assistance Policy (FAP) is posted along with the complete FAP policy and FAP Application on the hospital's website at https://www.adventisthealth.org/documents/financial-assistance/ENG_PFS-112_Financial-Assistance-Policy.pdf. These documents are available in multiple languages. At the time of registration, patients who are uninsured and underinsured are provided information about government healthcare programs. Patients are also orally informed of their right to request charity assistance. Signs are displayed in the patient business office, patient registration areas and the emergency room in multiple languages informing patients of this right as well. The hospital also provides a brochure during the registration process that explains the hospital billing and collection procedures, and how to request financial assistance. In addition, every billing statement sent to patients contains information on how to request financial assistance.
Part VI, Line 4 - Community InformationAdventist Health White Memorial (AHWM) service areas can be defined in three ways, as Los Angeles County, Primary Service Area, or zip code. Primary, Secondary Service Areas and Tertiary Service Areas (PSA, SSA and TSA, respectively) are comprised of zip codes that are defined by the volume of patients discharges. PSA is comprised of 18 zip codes that makes-up 63% of the total impatient discharges for AHWM. Those zip codes include Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles, City Terrace, Downtown Los Angeles, Huntington Park, Bell Gardens, Montebello, El Sereno, Lincoln Heights, South Gate, Pico Rivera, Maywood and Chinatown. Residents of the primary service areas are 49.6% male and 50.4% female, while majority of the population is Hispanic (85.1%). Of the 10,105,722 people living in LA County, 1,161,693 are residents of the PSA. The average household income in the PSA is $52,596 as compared to $89,855 in LA County. For every 10,000 children, there are 31.7 Head Start Facilities in AHWMs PSA. This rate is higher than the estimate for Los Angeles County (6.4 per 10,000 children) and the state (5.9 per 10,000 children). When looking at adult educational attainment by race/ethnicity in Los Angeles County, one finds that Latinos fare worse than other ethnicities in earning a high school degree at 42.2% followed by African Americans at 11.3%. Whites have the highest percentage for attaining college or postgraduate degrees at 45.5%, while Latinos have the lowest at 9.8%. When looking at percent of adults who are employed, AHWMs PSA has a lower percent (52.9%) as compared to Los Angeles County (57.5%) and the nation (56.4%). AHWMs PSA has a lower percentage of total population and children under age 18 living under the 100% federal poverty level at 38.5% and 27.0% as compared to zip code 90033. However, the estimates are higher than Los Angeles County and California. Within the homeless population in Los Angeles County, youth experiencing homelessness showed the greatest increase (32.5%) in comparison to other groups from 2018 to 2019. Chronically homeless populations showed the second greatest growth at 10%. When looking at occupational trends across the total service area, service occupations (44.2% manufacturing occupations (15.4%), and retail trade occupations (12%) emerged as the most common type of employment for the overall population. The population for the hospital service area is 1,165,691 and projected to grow about 2.3 percent in 5 years. The population is young with a median age of 30 and almost 46 percent of the female population is of childbearing age.The population is 44 percent Caucasian, 6 percent African American, 4 percent Asian/Pacific Islander and 55 percent Other which includes those choosing more than one race. As the population becomes blended and the US Census Bureau reporting methodologies change, the segment of the population that identifies as Hispanic is about 87 percent and could be included in any of the race/ethnicity categories. Spanish and English are the most commonly spoken languages in the primary service area. 13% of people, on average, aged 18-64 years reported speaking only English, with the greatest concentration residing within the 90039 zip code (Los Angeles). An average of 47% of persons aged 18-64 years reported speaking Spanish, with the greatest concentration residing within the 90255 zip code (Huntington Park). The community served by the hospital has an at-risk, vulnerable population. This is evidenced by low education rates as about 31 percent of adults aged 25 years and older have less than a 9th grade education and another 18 percent have some high school, but did not receive a high school diploma. The Federal Poverty Level guidelines for 2018 indicate the FPL for a family of 4 is $25,100. In the AHWM service area, 32 percent of the households are living below the FPL earning $25,000 or less each year. The unemployment rate in the primary service area is substantially higher in some neighborhoods according the the Community Health Needs Assement prepared in 2016. The highest rate is 26.7% in the area surrounding the hospital. As a result of high levels of unemployment and poverty, access to health care can be limited. In the service area, 29.3% of adults, ages 18-64, lack health insurance.
Part VI, Line 4 - Community Building ActivitiesThe hospital is involved in numerous community building activities which promote the health of the community. Overwhelmingly, we see diseases of despair including suicide, substance abuse, mental health and chronic illnesses plaguing the communities that we have a significant presence in. These community concerns are addressed through health improvement, education, poverty, workforce development and access to care. This is why we have focused our work around addressing behavior and the systems keeping the most vulnerable people in cycles of poverty and high utilization. In an effort to heal these communities, we have strategically invested in our communities by partnering with national leaders in community well-being. We believe the power of community transformation lies in the hands of the community. Our solution for transformation is to create a sustainable model of well-being that measurably impacts the well-being of people, well-being of place and equity. In 2020 Adventist Health completed the acquisition of Blue Zones as the first step toward reaching this goal. By partnering with Blue Zones, we are able to gain ground in shifting the balance from healthcare treating people once they are ill to transformative well-being changing the way communities live, work and play. Blue Zones widens our impact from only reaching our hospitals communities in four states to a global mission practice. We also encourage our employees to serve on community collaboration boards, health advocacy programs, and physical improvement projects to promote the health of the communities we serve. In addition, we work with neighborhood programs, including schools, work sites and safety net providers to promote health and wellness and prevent disease. These activities are not included elsewhere on Schedule H.
Part VI, Line 5 - Promotion of Community HealthOur hospitals mission is, Living Gods love by inspiring health, wholeness and hope. Our community benefit work is rooted deep within our mission and merely an extension of our mission and service. We have also incorporated our community benefit work to be an integral component of improving the triple aim. The Triple Aim concept broadly known and accepted within health care includes:1) Improve the experience of care for our residents.2) Improve the health of populations.3) Reduce the per capita costs of health care. Our strategic investments in our community are focused on a more planned, proactive approach to community health. The basic issue of good stewardship is making optimal use of limited charitable funds. Defaulting to charity care in our emergency rooms for the most vulnerable is not consistent with our mission. An upstream and more proactive and strategic allocation of resources enables us to help low income populations avoid preventable pain and suffering; in turn allowing the reallocation of funds to serve an increasing number of people experiencing health disparities.Hospitals and health systems are facing continuous challenges during this historic shift in our health system. Given todays state of health, where cost and heartache is soaring, now more than ever, we believe we can do something to change this. These challenges include a paradigm shift in how hospitals and health systems are positioning themselves and their strategies for success in a new payment environment. This will impact everyone in a community and will require shared responsibility among all stakeholders. As hospitals move toward population health management, community health interventions are a key element in achieving the overall goals of reducing the overall cost of health care, improving the health of the population, and improving access to affordable health services for the community both in outpatient and community settings. The key factor in improving quality and efficiency of the care hospitals provide is to include the larger community they serve as a part of their overall strategy. Population health is not just the overall health of a population, but also includes the distribution of health. Overall health could be quite high if the majority of the population is relatively healthyeven though a minority of the population is much less healthy. Ideally such differences would be eliminated or at least substantially reduced. Community health can serve as a strategic platform to improve the health outcomes of a defined group of people, concentrating on three correlated stages:1) The distribution of specific health statuses and outcomes within a population; 2) Factors that cause the present outcomes distribution; and 3) Interventions that may modify the factors to improve health outcomes.Improving population health requires effective initiatives to: 1) Increase the prevalence of evidence-based preventive health services and preventive health behaviors, 2) Improve care quality and patient safety, and 3) Advance care coordination across the health care continuum. We will work together with our community to ensure the community health improvements are identified and then targeted for programs to influence behaviors to obtain improved health within the whole community.
Part VI, Line 6 - Affilated Health Care SystemThe hospital is a member of Adventist Health, a health care system which provides healthcare services in diverse markets within the Western United States. A member hospital may share some services with other member hospitals in its geographic area, such as clinical, management and support services. Using today's technology, hospitals outside the geographic area are able to provide support through remote services such as telepharmacy and robotics surgery. The Corporate Office provides important shared administrative support for member hospitals' rural health clinics and home care agencies, quality of care, other clinical needs, financing and risk management, and shared clinical and financial information technology. As many experienced and new physicians search for alternatives to independent practice, there is also corporate administrative support for hospital affiliated medical groups that engage physicians through employment or other contracts. This provides stability and growth of qualified physicians across many specialties, which is very important to make healthcare services available and to maintain and improve health within the communities served by all member hospitals.

Part VI - Additional InformationIdentified Needs from CHNA, Not Addressed and Why (Based on 2020 (FY 2019) CHP Update) - No hospital can address all the health needs identified in its community. Adventist Health White Memorial (AHWM) is committed to serving the community by adhering to its mission, and using its skills, expertise and resources to provide a range of community benefit programs. Due to the magnitude of the three selected priority needs and the capacity of AHWM, the following areas will not be addressed: Homelessness and Poverty and Access to Healthy Foods. These priorities are being met through collaboration of community partners. Other Items In FY2020, Adventist Health as a system took the following actions in response to the needs created or exacerbated by COVID-19: Adventist Health as a system directed Community Strength Fund grants to each hospital to support community partners immediate response to COVID-19; Adventist Health as a system directed Community Integration Catalyst funds to each hospital to support internal new or expanded community well-being programming and innovation as an immediate response to COVID-19; began offering more virtual health care visits to keep community members safe and healthy; developed an online symptom tracker to help community members determine if they may have COVID-19 or some other flu type illness and what steps to take; partnered with MaskUp, a collaboration of 100 leading health systems representing thousands of hospitals across the U.S. joining to create messages for the betterment of the communities they serve.Locally, AHWM took these additional actions: Established a food distribution program at AHWM Community Garden, reaching out to our immediate community providing fresh produce to more than 15,000 families thanks to the partnership with Food Forward. Tackling food insecurity due to the COVID-19 impact. Created educational materials on COVID-19 to better inform our community on the disease and dissemination of the correct information on the vaccines. Collaborated with local partners to provide virtual education classes on COVID-19 and Vaccine education. Established a community vaccination clinic on campus and mobile clinic to reach vulnerable communities.
