DescSee Schedule ORenown South Meadows Medical Center is a 76-bed hospital that offers the latest in medical and surgical care, intensive care, telemetry, a 24-hour emergency room, inpatient and outpatient surgical and lab services. Renown South Meadows provides a wide range of healthcare services to the south Reno and Washoe Valley communities regardless of race, creed, sex, national origin, handicap, age or ability to pay. Renown South Meadows has around 500 physicians on its medical staff and extends privileges on its medical staff to all eligible and qualified physicians. Since it opened as an acute care hospital in 2002, Renown South Meadows has doubled its bed capacity by expanding the intensive care, surgical and telemetry units. Renown South Meadows is also the local home of endoscopic ultrasound. This technology, applied with skillful hands, has helped diagnose and treat digestive diseases in thousands of patients. Renown South Meadows has earned eight times since 2010, the honor of the HealthInsight Quality Award for high performance on quality-of-care outcome measures and patient satisfaction.Renown South Meadows houses physician offices in the medical pavilion located on its campus. The hospital provides the use of its facility to more than 20 healthcare activity and support groups. These include events that involve nursing students, senior healthcare, and obesity education. South Meadows also donates meeting space to more than a dozen community groups, including local law-enforcement agencies and service organizations.Renown South Meadows supports Partners in Education through activities with Double Diamond Elementary and Damonte Ranch High School.Renown Rehabilitation Hospital is a 62-bed, inpatient rehabilitation environment focusing on care that prepares patients to live as independently as possible after experiencing a disabling injury or illness.Renown Rehabilitation Hospital has the highest concentration of Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurses in northern Nevada. Rehabilitation nurses provide comfort, therapy and education, promote health-conducive adjustments, support adaptive capabilities and promote achievable independence. During fiscal year 2019, there was only one other inpatient acute rehabilitation facility in Northern Nevada. Renown South Meadows and Renown Rehabilitation Hospital are governed by a board of community members, the majority of who live in our primary service area and who are neither employees or independent contractors or family members. All surplus funds are retained in the organization to make improvements in patient care. For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2019, Renown South Meadows, along with its parent, Renown Health and its subsidiaries, provided more than $158 million in benefit to the community (using community benefit numbers gathered by the Nevada Hospital Association using state-approved criteria to ensure consistency). For a full report on the benefit Renown Health provided to our community as well as our needs assessment and community benefit plan go to www.renown.org/about-us/community.Desc

Renown South Meadows Medical CenterPart V, Section B, Line 11: Primary Health Priority #1: Mental Health - In FY19, Renown Health partnered with Communities in Schools and Note-Able Music Therapy Services to reduce depression and suicide among all populations, with a focus on youth. Communities in Schools (CIS) is a national program that operates in local school districts to send staff into schools to link students with services needed for academic achievement. Renown Health funding expanded programming and services to Anderson Elementary School and Glenn Duncan STEM Academy. 83% of case-managed students made progress in behavior (goal was 75%). 78% of case-managed students made progress in academic scores and 100% of CIS site coordinators are now trained in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).Note-Able Music Therapy Services provides evidence-based music therapy in group and individual settings to people with chronic and acute health conditions, disabilities, and neurological disorders. Renown Health funded this project to expand services to individuals dealing with depression, chronic stress, and other mental health issues. Note-Able's partnered with four community organizations to provide ongoing music therapy groups to participants. Note-Able's held 205 sessions with 348 unique individuals served. In these sessions participants reported an increase in subjective well-being; a decreased in self-reported level of depression from baseline; a decrease in anxiety scores from baseline; and an improvement in social connectedness (measured as loneliness) scores from baseline.Primary Health Priority #2: Substance Use - In FY19, Renown Health with Join Together Northern Nevada and Quest Counseling & Consulting provided substance prevention services and education to youth and young adults.Join Together Northern Nevada (JTNN) serves residents in Washoe County to promote substance use awareness, education, and prevention. JTNN is collaborating with the Washoe County School District to implement the evidence-based programming, LifeSkills Training in middle schools. With Renown Health funding, LifeSkills curriculum was taught to 6 traditional high schools and 2 alternative high schools. 539 students matched by pre/posttest. Students self-reported an average point change of +0.30 increase in knowledge of the impact of media influence; an average point change of +0.08 increase in knowledge of the impact of substance use on physical, mental, and emotional health; and an improvement of self-reported awareness of coping mechanisms, conflict resolution, stress, and anger management skills of +1.36.Quest Counseling & Consulting offers residential and outpatient services to individuals dealing with substance use and mental health issues. Services include comprehensive assessments and screenings, drug testing, crisis intervention and trauma-informed services. Licensed substance abuse and mental health counselors help clients recover from substance use or addiction and neglect of unmet mental health needs. With Renown Health funding, Quest Increased the number of referrals received from Renown for substance use and mental health counseling and made treatment more accessible to clients. Quest opened a "Girls House" a residential option in Reno vs going out-of-state which allows their families to participate in treatment. 77% of Renown Grant clients demonstrated an improvement in at least two areas of their treatment plan. 54% clients successfully completed alcohol treatment. 73% clients each quarter, reduced alcohol consumption. 84% clients had a reduction in depressive symptoms. 74% clients reported suicidality, 40% had a reduction in symptoms within six months. Primary Health Priority #3: Physical Activity, Nutrition & Weight - In FY19, Renown Health and Reno-Sparks Indian Colony have partnered to increase physical activity, improve nutrition, and reduce obesity among all populations. With funding from Renown Health, Reno-Sparks Indian Colony created the Pathways to Health program. This program aims to reduce barriers to nutrition and physical activity by bringing fresh produce to families of enrolled members and providing free transportation to exercise programs at the Reno-Sparks Tribal Health Center. Since program inception, the program has grown to 16 households, serving from 1-7 adults and children in each household, to equal 41 food insecure individuals served weekly, 8 of the 16 primary household heads are in diabetes management. 7 of the 16 Pathways household participants have received regular transport to the gym to equal approximately 51 transports for exercise. Based on community demand, Renown Health and Washoe County Health District are working to bring fresh, healthy food to sports settings. This is providing athletes, employees and fans the option to choose a healthy snack while they watch sporting events. Renown offers grants to nonprofit youth sports organizations to purchase and offers nutritionist-approved items such as fresh fruit and healthy snack and meal options under 500 calories. Healthy Concessions goals are to increase the number of events where Healthy Concessions items are offered by 10% each year and increase awareness of the benefits of healthy eating among sporting event attendees. Healthy Concessions was offered at five sporting events and increased awareness of the benefits of healthy eating to over 8792 people. Primary Health Priority #4: Chronic Disease, Screenings - In FY19, Renown Medical Group and Northern Nevada HOPES addressed diabetes screening and prevention by implementing the National Diabetes Prevention Program. In addition, Nevada Tobacco Prevention Coalition was identified as a community partner to address risk factors associated with asthma. It specifically addressed exposure to second-hand smoke. Renown Medical Groups see patients of all ages and coordinate medical care including checkups, immunizations, referrals to specialists, lab work, x-ray & imaging and hospital admissions. Renown Medical group has implemented the CDC-recognized National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). The DPP program currently holds CDC Pending Status and on track to obtain CDC-preliminary recognition. The program offered participants 18 sessions in the first six months and three monthly sessions have been completed this year. To date participants have lost over a hundred pounds or 3% of their total weight. The starting average number of activity minutes per week was 100 minutes and participants have been able to increase this amount to an average of 500 minutes per week. Northern Nevada HOPES is a community health center for medically underserved populations including uninsured patients Medicare, Medicaid, some private insurers and sliding fee scale. HOPES offers integrated medical care and wellness services including adult and pediatric primary care, HIV and Hep C care, adult psychiatry, chronic disease management, wellness and nutrition, behavioral health counseling, substance use counseling, case management, a pharmacy, and more. Renown Health funds assisted in the training of two trained lifestyle coaches. HOPES launched seven classes: four Spanish and three English, 234 referrals from providers, 100 patients enrolled, 67 participated, 41 patients actively participating. 25% of clients lost 5-7% of their body weight. 72% of clients exercised 150 minutes per week. 61% of clients retained and completed the entire program. It is in pending status and on track to obtain CDC-preliminary recognition.Nevada Tobacco Prevention Coalition and Renown Health introduced this policy-based initiative to decrease exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke and reduce the prevalence of the negative health outcomes associated with tobacco smoke. This project has engaged and assisted local businesses in Washoe County to support and voluntarily adopt smoke-free workplace policies and will introduce a smoke-free workplace ordinance in a city or county municipality. To date, Nevada Tobacco Prevention Coalition conducted an economic impact study of comprehensive clean indoor air in Northern Nevada workplaces and assessed current attitudes regarding smoke-free workplaces. Identified Needs Not Being Addressed - We believe our plan will allow us to start addressing some of the most pressing health needs in our community, but we recognize that we will not be able to tackle every issue we would like. The five issues that will not be addressed are crime and violent-related behaviors, injury prevention, maternal and child health, environmental health, sexual health and infectious disease and immunizations. Most of these topics didn't rank among the top two-thirds of the 12 ranked health needs. Although these important health needs weren't funded by Renown Community Benefits in this current plan, we encourage other community partners who may be better suited to address these topics to fund and guide evidence-based programs in these areas.

Part I, Line 3c:In addition to the federal poverty guidelines, we also consider eligibility for state assistance programs and homelessness or no documentation to establish indigence as factors in determining eligibility. All patients are expected to make a financial contribution towards their bill and are subject to pay at least a minimal co-payment so technically no free care is provided.
Part I, Line 6a:The organization's community benefit report is contained in a report prepared by its parent corporation, Renown Health.Part I, Line 5c: The organization budgets the amount of charity care expected in the next year but does not use that estimate as a constraint on the amount of charity care provided.
Part I, Line 7:Charity care expense was converted to cost on line 7a using the cost-to-charge ratio derived from Worksheet 2. Unreimbursed medicaid and other unreimbursed costs on line 7b was calculated using the cost-to-charge ratio derived from Worksheet 2. Part VI, Line 2:The organization reviews the current demographic information of the population it serves and the impact those demographics have on the health needs of the community. See explanation 4 for a description of the community. While the demographics start to tell the story of community health needs, Renown Health also consults with community partners and draws from state and local government, non-profits, and school district data sources to assess healthcare needs in the community. Renown Health also used data from the Washoe County Health District to identify health care needs and barriers in its service area.Renown Health's Community Benefit Committee spearheads the development of an annual community needs assessment and corresponding community benefit plan, and oversees the tracking and reporting of community benefit activities. The committee oversees the development or updating of a community needs assessment, and from that assessment develops a community benefit plan that prioritizes and identifies community needs that the organization can support with its finite resources. The needs assessment and community benefit plan are presented to the organization's board as well as the Renown Health Board for review and approval. The needs assessment and the community benefit plan are posted to the organization's website at www.renown.org/about-us/community.
Part VI, Line 3:The organization educates patients on assistance eligibility by posting information on its website regarding its financial assistance program and whenever situations indicate that the patient may be unable to pay for services. The organization has a dedicated Patient Financial Assistance Department that works with uninsured patients to establish eligibility for a state or local program.
