| Desc | EDUCATION AND AUDIENCE - CHM engages audiences as collaborators, storytellers, and supporters of history. CHM activates these roles through programmatic offerings that bring Chicago's past to life for families, adults, Museum members, and students. In 2018, over 280,000 individuals visited the Museum and participated in our programs, including 59,000 K-12 students on free school visits. CHM provided professional development to over 1,400 teachers through workshops and curricular support. The Museum hosts robust public programs, including panel discussions, commemorative day celebrations, film screenings, and public history tours of the many iconic sites and neighborhood treasures of Chicago. Through the Chicago 00 project, CHM offers multi-media digital history experiences that immerse viewers in defining moments of the past using virtual and augmented reality applications of images from our collection. Episodes include the Eastland Disaster, the award-winning St. Valentine's Day Massacre, and A Century of Progress, featuring the 1933-34 world's fair. These experiences allow the Museum to bring its collection and interpretive content to audiences all over the world. CHM served over 15,000 students through the Chicago Metro History Fair, a program that engages 115 schools with an inquiry-based curriculum, resources and events culminating in showcases of student projects. | Desc | COLLECTIONS AND RESEARCH - CHM houses a premier collection of more than 25 million objects, documents and images, including an unparalleled set of materials pertaining to Abraham Lincoln; one of the largest and most significant costume collections in the world; the Hedrich Blessing architecture photography collection; a flag by Betsy Ross; and the complete library of Studs Terkel interviews, which are now being digitized by the Library of Congress. CHM seeks to uncover the power of primary source materials and to maximize discoverability of its collections. CHM materials are available to the public through the Research Center and its library, which served close to 7,000 patrons in 2018. CHM's website introduces over half a million annual online visitors to collection holdings and offers access to its Research Center staff, who address inquiries about objects and documents of interest.
