MissionOKLAHOMA BLOOD INSTITUTE'S (OBI'S) MISSION IS TO BE THE DONOR-TO-PATIENT LIFELINES BY PROVIDING OUR COMMUNITIES AND MEDICAL PARTNERS SECURITY BY MEETING BLOOD TRANSFUSION AND HEALTH CARE NEEDS. FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED MARCH 31, 2018, OBI MANAGED THE LIFE-SAVING BLOOD DONATIONS OF 206,726 PEOPLE IN THE REGION. OF THESE DONATIONS, 338,468 UNITS OF BLOOD WERE DELIVERED TO PATIENTS IN 235 HOSPITALS AND AIR AMBULANCE SERVICES ACROSS THE REGION. PRIOR TO RECEIVING DONATIONS AND PROVIDING TRANSFUSIONS, OBI HAD TO UNDERGO AN IMMENSE AMOUNT OF FDA- REGULATED PROCESSING AND TESTING FOR DONOR AND BLOOD RECIPIENT SAFETY. VOLUNTEER BLOOD DONORS GIVE WHAT CANNOT BE CREATED AND PROVIDED FROM ANY OTHER MEANS. OBI RECRUITS DONORS, PROVIDES SKILLED MEDICAL STAFF, TECHNOLOGY AND FACILITIES TO COLLECT BLOOD FROM DONORS. LAB PROFESSIONALS UNDER THE MEDICAL SUPERVISION OF PHYSICIANS PREPARE THE BLOOD FOR TRANSFUSION AND ADMINISTER 15 SAFETY TESTS. ALL MUST BE DONE WITH UTMOST URGENCY AND AROUND THE CLOCK,MissionDesc

LOBBYING EXPENSES WERE INCURRED AS A RESULT. AS ONLY THE 25TH SUCH CORD BLOOD PROGRAM IN THE WORLD, IT FILLS A CRITICAL NEED FOR UMBILICAL CORD-HARVESTED STEM CELLS THAT CAN BE LIFE-SAVING FOR PATIENTS WITH NO OTHER HOPE OTHER THAN A STEM CELL TRANSPLANT. WITHOUT AN OKLAHOMA CENTER AT OBI, MINORITY POPULATIONS MOST PREVALENT IN OKLAHOMA WOULD REMAIN POORLY REPRESENTED WITHIN NATIONAL REGISTRIES. OBI WAS THE ONLY ORGANIZATION IN OKLAHOMA WHERE REQUIRED CORE BLOOD PROCESSING AND TESTING TECHNOLOGY AND EXPERTISE EXISTED. HOWEVER, EXTENSIVE, ONGOING FUNDING IS REQUIRED FOR MORE SOPHISTICATED TECHNOLOGY AND EXPERTISE TO SUPPORT SUCH A WORLD-CLASS PROGRAM. ExplanationSCHEDULE D, PART X, LINE 2 Holding, the Institute, OBI Real Estate Company, OBI Real Estate Company 2, Global Blood Fund and the Foundation are not-for-profit corporations as described in the Internal Revenue Code and are exempt from federal income taxes on related income pursuant to Section 501(a) of the Code. The Company generates unrelated business income through certain testing and debt-financed leasing activities, the taxes on which have historically been inconsequential and are included in the allocated expenses reported in the combined statements of activities. Management has reviewed the Company's tax positions and concluded that there are no uncertain tax positions that meet the more-likely-than-not criteria that would require accrual in the financial statements or disclosure in the footnotes to be in compliance with authoritative guidance. Generally, the Company is no longer subject to income tax examinations by federal, state or local tax authorities for years before 2014.ExplanationTxt
