DescThe Akron Children's Hospital Foundation works to ensure that the Hospital (CHMCA) can continue to uphold its three promises: 1) treat each other the way we would want to be treated 2) treat each child as if it were our own 3) turn no child away for any reason During 2018, CHMCA completed a 230,000 square foot addition to the Considine Professional Building. The new building brings together all of our outpatient clinics on the Akron campus and continues the campus transformation the hospital began in 2012 when it opened the Kay Jewelers Pavilion in 2015. The Considine Building expansion project will help meet the growing need for more space in the Neurodevelopmental Science Center and Sports Medicine. In addition, the outpatient pharmacy will move into the larger renovated space. The biggest change with the expansion and combining all the out-patient clinics in one building will be the centralized check-in and registration process. This centralized registration will allow for faster access to patient services. The building will also feature amenities for families including a caf. Philanthropy played a key role in the success of the campus expansion. The Kay Jeweler's Pavilion ("KJP") was opened in May 2015 and approximately $30,000,000 was raised by the Foundation to offset the costs of construction. During 2017 and 2018, an additional amount of $282,000 was raised for the Considine Professional Building expansion. During 2018, an additional amount of $4,907,934 Foundation funds were used by CHMCA to support its mission. These Foundation funds supported numerous programs within the Hospital such as Hematology/Oncology, The Akron Marathon, Global Health, Palliative Care, Research and Education, The Regional Burn Center, Safety and Injury Prevention, Child Advocacy, Neonatal, Pediatrics, Tele-Health Mental, Outreach, and other programs. Since the Foundation's creation, it has provided the sources to purchase specialized lifesaving medical equipment which might not have otherwise been possible within CHMCA's budget limitations. The Foundation has financed medical research into the cause, prevention and treatment of complex childhood diseases and problems, and has provided community safety programs in professional education, patient information and youth development. The net effect of these efforts has been to keep CHMCA at the forefront of healthcare, while minimizing the cost of such care to patients and their families.Desc

Part V, Line 4 - Intended Use for Endowment FundsTemporarily restricted funds are subject to purpose or time restrictions imposed by the donor. Those funds are held until the specific purpose is met and then they are released from restrictions. Permanently restricted funds are funds that are invested in perpetuity and are not available to fund any current operations. The earnings from the endowment fund can be used for the specific purpose imposed by the donor. Board designated funds include funds from unrestricted sources that have been internally designated by the Board of Directors to function as endowments. These funds are to be used for the sole purpose for which they were designed. Akron Children's Hospital Foundation does have a policy in place to monitor all unrestricted, temporarily and permanently restricted funds.
Part X, Line 2 - FIN 48 (ASC 740)Akron Children's Hospital Foundation is a subsidiary in the consolidated financial statements of Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron ("CHMCA"). CHMCA adopted Accounting Standards Codification 740 (ASC 740) in 2007 which requires businesses to analyze and disclose income tax risks. No disclosures were required under GAAP as CHMCA did not have any material tax consequences that required a liability to be disclosed in the financial statements.
