PAUL L JOSKOW - grants
630 FIFTH AVENUE SUITE 2200NEW YORKNY101112126491649An interested grantseeker should submit a Letter of Inquiry by email to the appropriate program director. Grantseekers that submit promising letters of inquiry will be invited to submit a formal grant proposal. All grant proposals must include a proposal cover sheet, proposal, budget, appendices and proposal administration form submitted via email. Once a proposal has been submitted, the Foundation will evaluate the proposal. The Foundation's grant review and approval process is extremely rigorous and designed to mimic the peer review process at high quality academic journals. Depending on the funds requested and the complexity of the work to be performed, the Foundation may seek independent expert review of the proposal. If so, grantseekers are given the opportunity to respond in writing to reviewer comments. It is not unusual for a grantseeker to be asked to revise, amend, or supplement the original proposal (sometimes significantly) as a result of the proposal review process.NONE- The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation does not accept or review unsolicited grant proposals. - The Foundation makes grant primarily to support original research and education related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and economics. - The Foundation does not make grants to political campaigns, to support political activities, or to lobby for or against particular pieces of legislation. - The Foundation does not make grants to individuals except through its Books program. - The Foundation does not generally make grants to for-profit institutions. - The Foundation does not make grants in religion, medical research, or research in the humanities. - The Foundation does not make grants aimed at pre-college students except through its New York City initiative. - The Foundation does not make grants to projects in the creative or performing arts except when those projects are related to educating the public about science, technology, or economics. - The Foundation does not make grant

In addition, the Foundation publicized the winners of Sloan Awards for Excellence in Teaching Science and Mathematics, an annual awards program that honors exceptional math and science teaching in New York Citys public high schools. Each year since 1973, the Sloan Public Service Awards have recognized six outstanding civil servants out of the hundreds of thousands of people who work for New York City government. The Fund for the City of New York manages the nomination and selection process and refers to the awards as the Nobel Prizes of Government, the highest award that can be bestowed upon a New York City public servant. These winners were also published in the New York Times. The Foundation's Book program aims to reach a wide, lay audience, and has supported over 100 authors since 1996 in the research and writing of a wide range of books aimed at public understanding of science, technology and economics.
